Head and Neck is a 14 bedded ward with ENT and Max Fax patients , however our amazing team looks after different specialities each day. We are a progressive ward, with a focus on staff development and advancement with the aim of delivering best possible care to our patients.

Our exceptional team takes care of various specialties daily.
We prioritize staff development and progression to ensure the best possible care for our patients. Support, specialized knowledge, and expertise will be needed for the daily care and management of all patients in the ward.
You will have the chance to showcase your clinical, managerial, and leadership skills in this fast-paced environment.
The post holder will be responsible for:
Caring for patients pre- and post-operatively
Caring for post op head and Neck surgical patients.
Caring for laryngectomy, tracheostomy patients.
Caring for compromised airway patients.
Post op management of surgical flaps, drain management.
Caring for step down patients from critical care.
Nutrition management.
Wound and pressure area care management.
Administration of medications.
Complex discharge management.
As a band 5 Nurse you will maintain a high standard of patient focused care.
You will maintain a safe and clean working environment, providing assessment, planning implementation and evaluation of nursing care for patients ensuring accurate written records are kept.
You will communicate with the patients and carers effectively to ensure they have access to appropriate information.
Requirements
To provide advice and education to patients, staff and learners within the ward as required.
To develop communication networks across specialities and throughout the multidisciplinary team.
Be able to prioritise their own workload and of those working with them such as learners and Healthcare Assistants. When in charge of the ward know how to delegate the staff according to the skill mix to ensure the smooth running of the ward.
Carry out nursing care to the highest possible standard according to Trust Policies and Practice and Clinical Guidelines. This requires a thorough understanding of policies and guidance related to for example: infection control, hygiene, and individualised patient needs.
To know what Essence of Care is and how it affects patient care and needs and escalate concerns.
To know how to deal with people with challenging behaviour and to know when to call for assistance when needed.
Always adhere to uniform policy.
Liaise with the bed manager and discharge co-ordinator to ensure effective bed management on the ward, including admission of patients, planning of bed usage and timely discharge planning.
To ensure that all equipment is maintained, and any faults immediately reported.
At Northampton General Hospital we provide general acute services and hyper-acute stroke, vascular and renal services to people living in Northamptonshire. As well as this we are an accredited cancer centre and provide cancer services to a wider population of Northamptonshire and parts of Buckinghamshire.
