Full Job Description

As Head of Business Development, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will have the exciting opportunity to work closely with the Vice President of Future Business and to be at the forefront and play a crucial part in Business Development and Business Wins.

Day-to-day, you will plan and lead business development activities to position Babcock as a leader in the markerplace.

  • Develop and maintain senior relationships with the major target clients, positioning Babcock as a strategic potential supplier.

  • Responsible for the creation, identification, qualification, and development of the pipeline of opportunities in support the Business growth ambition, the Sector growth strategy, and Training Business Unit plans.

  • Work with the Business Winning team and senior management in the pursuit and shaping of campaigns to ensure differentiated propositions that deliver the required value to stakeholders.

  • Work with multiple internal operational and functional stakeholders to develop innovative campaigns that competitively position Babcock to secure growth opportunities.


  • This role is full time working 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with travel across the UK.

    Essential experience of the Head of Business Development
  • Complete understanding of the Land Domain and the wider UK Defence ecosystem.

  • Extensive knowledge of Government business development, contract awards, current procurement trends and customer buying behaviours.

  • Proven experience of collaboratively creating compelling messaging.

  • Excellent inter-personal, presentation and verbal skills.

  • Client and Industry stakeholder engagement experience.


  • Qualifications for the Head of Business Development
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant industry experience.


  • Security Clearance
    The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
