Full Job Description

The Head of Business Systems plays a key leadership role in the Technology and Engineering department where they drive excellence in the design, build and management of enterprise applications across the Group. They have responsibility for key services in the areas of core business systems, including Finance, HR, IFRS17, campaigning, policy admin, operational data, content management, legacy systems, the Warranty-in-a-Box core finance, customer communications platforms, pricing and underwriting systems and BAU data processing. These services are foundational to the business and key enablers for our Product Engineering teams to build out customer and agent experience propositions.,

  • Build, test and run business critical systems globally & run Group-wide application support and maintenance.
  • Owns platform management, design and quality of those platforms and ensure ongoing compliance to legal and software licencing obligations.
  • Accountable for continuous improvement in platform management and support.
  • Lifecycle management for key platforms in collaboration with Product and Group Architecture.
  • Knowledge and Expertise Architecture:
  • Work with business and technical stakeholders in order to understand functional and technology requirements and constraints, and to reflect this in an architectural strategy for the business
  • Align all architectural solutions with other teams within D&G, including collaboration on solution design to ensure fit-for-purpose end-to-end solutions. This includes data standards, separation of concerns, software abstraction strategies, messaging strategies, and interface agreements.
  • To validate infrastructure and environment configurations that will be designed in order to fulfil the scalability, security, and resiliency of the business.
  • Solution Engineering/Design:
  • The Head of Business Systems will be fully accountable for the solution design of the platforms and systems that are built and making sure they comply with D&G policy
  • Knowledge and expertise in cloud-based architecture is a prerequisite
  • Provide technical consultation as well as expertise to Product and Platform Managers.
  • Platform Development:
  • Develop and manage software engineering applications
  • Manage joint development with 3rd party vendors as well as outsourced development.
  • Develop and implement software engineering plans.
  • Manage all software engineering schedules, budget and resource allocation.
  • Assist software development team to attain optimal team performance through removing technical obstacles.
  • Align to best practices where relevant, eg, DevSecOps and Observability.
  • QA/Testing:
  • Develop, implement and maintain all cross-platform test suites for the systems they look after
  • Manage the preparation and implementation software test plans, designs, objectives and cases.
  • Collaborate with developers to prepare and present world-class organization application with high quality.
  • Respond to all technical support inquiries pertinent to software application's functions and operation.
  • Application Management:
  • Establish and maintain a first-class support environment for all of D&G's applications and systems.
  • Resolve complex issues in applications support and maintain an active enhancement programme to improve service quality and reliability.
  • Maintain, manage and update technical system documentation.
