Full Job Description

The Product Group is establishing and implementing digital transformation across the BBCs audience facing digital products; this role will be key in supporting the successful Product delivery of our Digital First strategy. The Head of Change ensures that all aspects of transformation are effectively executed to drive business success. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills who can foster a culture of adaptability and continuous improvement. This person will be helping the Director of Product Transformation and the CPO on a strategic and practical level to establish the level of change that needs to be embraced and quantifying the benefits and efficiencies gained from its adoption. They are pivotal to moving the Product Group to its future vision where it can deliver the Digital strategic ambition at pace and unlock value for our users efficiently and effectively. They will work alongside the Head of Transformation to ensure the transformation programmes land well, cause minimum disruption and deliver a flawless transformation in Product Group.,

  • Oversee the planning, execution and evaluation of change initiatives, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Develop and execute communication plans to ensure transparency and clarity throughout the change process.
  • Identify training needs and facilitate development programmes to equip employees with the necessary skills for the future vision.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators to assess the effectiveness of change initiatives and make data-driven adjustments where needed.
  • Identify potential risks associated with change initiatives and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Foster a change-mindset and a culture ready for change within Product Group, promoting resilience and adaptability among employees.
  • Work with the senior stakeholders and wider business, to identify how the change impacts on the business and quantify its benefits to help encourage engagement.
  • Engages with all relevant aspects of the business to make a clear change impact assessment and help leaders in Product Group understand this.
  • Identifying opportunities in Product Group and pan-BBC for areas that would benefit from change and transformation.
  • Leads strategic planning, implementation of change activities and resolves escalated issues. Leads all aspects of change including resources and delivery.
  • Responsible for direction of change team - including objective-setting, monitoring quality and progress.
  • Role-models good practice change management, capabilities behaviours and helps the BBC to continually enhance CM approach in its new digital future.
  • Identify and manage risks; providing mitigation plans where possible and making senior stakeholders aware of the risks threatening the smooth running of the change programme of work.
  • Create strategy and plans to address any barriers or resistance to future changes.
  • Lead development and delivery of relevant assessments, plans, processes and materials to enable the change i.e. business readiness assessment, change sustainability plans, new processes, training, benefits realisation plans and tracking.
  • Work closely with the Product Operations team (and wider pan-BBC teams where necessary) to enable the smooth handover of plans and capability, support the transition into business as usual (BAU) and move towards continuous improvement.
  • May include implementing sustainability plans, monitoring adoption, reporting on change effectiveness and measuring, analysing and responding to performance metrics.
  • Oversee lessons learned/after action reviews relating to change effectiveness, and celebrate success.
  • Provides leadership for the change management profession at the BBC - inspiring others and applying specialist knowledge and experience to grow CM maturity.
  • Is an ambassador for CM and advocate for good practice internally and externally, helping to promote the BBC and develop positive relationships with external organisations.
  • May take a lead in the management of change management resources who are deployed onto programmes or within a business function.

    Relevant qualification including one or more of Change Management Institute ACMF (Accredited Change Manager Master); APMG - Change Management Practitioner; Prosci ADKAR Model or equivalent.
  • Experience leading the initiation, management and implementation of change via large-scale transformational change programmes.
  • Strong demonstrable understanding and approach to benefits management - from strategy to realisation.
  • In-depth working knowledge of the principles and concepts that underpin change management and able to advise with authority senior stakeholders on 'good practice approach' to business change.
  • Experience in stakeholder management on complex/sensitive programmes and at senior executive levels.
  • Credibility and impact with senior leaders; adept at using influence and persuasion to gain buy-in to enable change to happen through others.
  • Experience of facilitating and monitoring change; able to deal with complexity and ambiguity in a pressured environment; can adapt to changes in business focus.
  • Able to define and structure complex problems, evaluate new concepts and ideas, and identify sound recommendations and solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (including presentation) skills and a proven ability to develop, maintain and enhance relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
  • Strong people management, decision-making and organisational skills, and a high awareness of the project/ programme context and discipline. Fully proficient at planning, risk and dependency-management.
  • Able to identify both the overt and covert organisation culture and its influence on the change.

  • Has led change for or managed at least five change programmes, each of significant length and each with a budget of £15m+ and significant impact across multiple business areas.
  • Experience facilitating change for programmes requiring TUPE and employment issues.
  • An appreciation of changing technology and working practices across the broadcasting industry.
