The Head of Communications will lead and inspire a dynamic team in delivering strategic and operational communications for a forward-thinking local government organisation in London. This role is central to shaping and advancing the organisation's public narrative, working across departments to deliver timely, impactful, and transparent communications to local communities and stakeholders including media stakeholders. The successful candidate will have a proven record of leading communications teams within a political environment, demonstrating both skill and insight in navigating complex stakeholder relationships. They will champion industry best practices, ensuring all communications uphold high standards of integrity and accessibility, while staying ahead of trends to enhance public engagement. An innovative leader, the Head of Communications will leverage cutting-edge technology, including AI, to elevate communication strategies and drive efficiency. With an agile and creative mindset, they will push the boundaries of traditional public sector communications, experimenting with new formats and channels to reach diverse audiences effectively. This role requires a confident, proactive approach, balancing bold ideas with strategic acumen to maximise the impact of all communications. The Head of Communications will support a culture of bravery and adaptability within the team, encouraging the exploration of new ideas and driving continuous improvement in all aspects of communication and public engagement.
Leadership Experience: Proven experience in leading, developing, and motivating high-performing communications teams within a public sector or politically sensitive environment. Strategic Planning: Demonstrated ability to design and implement comprehensive communication strategies that align with organizational objectives and address the needs of diverse stakeholders. Innovation in Communications: Evidence of innovation in designing and delivering communications, with a track record of introducing creative and impactful solutions to complex challenges. Political Acumen: Strong understanding of working within a political landscape, including navigating relationships with elected officials, stakeholders, and the public. AI and Technology Proficiency: Knowledge of current and emerging technologies, including AI, and their application in modern communication practices to improve efficiency and engagement. Industry Best Practices: Deep understanding of industry standards and best practices in public sector communications, with the ability to apply these to drive continuous improvement. Audience-Centric Approach: Ability to tailor communication strategies to meet the needs of diverse communities, ensuring messages are accessible, inclusive, and culturally relevant. Crisis Management Skills: Experience in managing communications during crises or high-profile events, with the ability to respond swiftly and maintain public confidence. Analytical and Data-Driven: Strong analytical skills, with the capability to use data insights to guide decision-making and optimize communication effectiveness. Creative and Agile Mindset: A proactive, adaptable approach to problem-solving, with a bold, creative outlook that inspires innovation and embraces change.
- Salary: £60,000-£65,000
- Contract: 12 month fixed term contract with possibility for extension
