Full Job Description

The Enterprise Services and Public Affairs (ESPA) team seeks to enhance and protect the reputation of Citi, its businesses, and the brand through communication with various Citi stakeholders, including our colleagues. The Communications team is a nimble team in ESPA that covers a broad scope of responsibilities. In the UK this ranges from media relations to employee communications, branding, and community development. The nature of the work is dynamic and the team partners with senior leaders and other members of ESPA across the world. This is a high energy, hardworking and affable team. The Head of Communications for the UK Cluster will report to the Head of Communications, International. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting the strategy for the cluster, ensuring successful delivery across the UK and managing a team of 2 direct reports. The successful candidate will manage a comprehensive public affairs strategy for a global firm in one of its most significant regions. The role involves providing strategic communications advice to senior leaders including the UK Citi Country Officer (CCO) / UK Cluster and Banking Head. What you'll do

  • Develop and execute an over-arching communications strategy for the cluster, aligned with our Global Communications priorities. This will involve a comprehensive internal and external communications plan and encompass working with internal partners to support the bank's community development and institutional branding/sponsorship activities.
  • Lead day-to-day management of the Communications network throughout the UK, providing guidance and assistance in developing and executing strategies, while ensuring alignment with global plans and tracking performance.
  • Create and implement a comprehensive and proactive media relations strategy for the cluster.
  • Develop messaging on the UK's importance to Citi's overall international network, and proof points for UK aligned with Citi's global narrative.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with key opinion leaders in national and international media across the cluster.
  • Ensure we nurture strong relationships with important media.
  • Ensure senior leaders at the cluster level, where appropriate, have working relationships with the key opinion leaders in national and international media.
  • Ensure spokespeople are media trained and well versed in Citi's narrative.
  • Manage all reputational risks; defend Citi's reputation in the media and escalate issues promptly.
  • Define and track measures of success; use metrics to inform strategy., Create and implement an internal communications and engagement strategy for the UK and the UK Citi Country Officer (CCO) / UK Cluster and Banking Head. This strategy should be designed to help employees better understand Citi's purpose and strategy, identify with its values and how they contribute to the firm's wider success.
  • Partner with and act as a trusted adviser to stakeholders to ensure the internal communications and engagement strategy aligns with Citi priorities, communications plans and global standards.
  • Conceptualise and deliver engaging content across channels including email, the Intranet, newsletters and town halls to reach a diverse workforce. This includes stories and tangible proof points from UK that reinforces Citi's global narrative.
  • Roll out internal communications and employee engagement campaigns, build best practices, and share expertise.
  • Define and track measures of success; use metrics to inform strategy.
  • Community Development
  • Partner with the Citi Foundation for communications support for community initiatives including the annual Global Innovation Challenge.
  • Deliver high quality communications plans that resonate with employees, achieve social impact, help build Citi's reputation, and are aligned with Citi's global citizenship strategy., Work with ESPA partners and the business to ensure Citi's branding and sponsorships activities in UK are aligned with Citi's global standards.
  • Advise on local sponsorship and branding opportunities that meet both Citi's brand objectives and drive value for our businesses.
  • Through all communications, establish Citi as an employer of choice.
  • Risk and Controls
  • Appropriately assess risk when decisions are made. Safeguard Citi, its clients and assets by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behaviour, conduct and business practices. Escalate, manage and report issues with transparency.
  • Understand risks specific to ESPA and the role and comply with the roles and responsibilities defined by Citi's policies.

    Demonstrable public affairs experience working across jurisdictions.
  • Experience managing a team of people in public affairs.
  • A track record of creating and executing a comprehensive public affairs strategy
  • Experience in building and maintaining strong relationships with senior leaders and external partners, including key media and community partners.
  • Understanding of the UK media landscape a plus.
  • Experience aligning branding/sponsorship activities to business strategy and driving incremental business value.
  • Working knowledge of a large financial services company.
  • Competencies:
  • Outstanding organisational skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritise and manage time effectively, attention to detail.
  • Ability to gain trust and build relationships with senior management., Ability to create high-quality, meaningful content for a wide variety of communications channels.
  • Ability to develop compelling narratives including talking points, press releases, scripts, and social media.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
