Full Job Description

We are looking for an inspirational and innovative teacher with excellent leadership skills, to play a key role in the management of the Computing Department at Emanuel School.

You will lead, manage and develop the Computing curriculum, helping to deliver innovative and excellent teaching that facilitates pupil progress and ensures high standards of attainment.

In addition to this, you will also oversee the operational and strategic planning of the department, as well as managing the departmental team and engaging with pupils outside the classroom in our exciting technology-based clubs, competitions and activities.

We are looking for a dynamic individual with excellent subject knowledge and the ability to deliver enthusiastic and engaging lessons to students. You will need a proven track record of teaching Computing at secondary level, along with experience of managing a team and the ability to motivate and inspire both pupils and colleagues.

Computing at Emanuel

Computing is a significant growth area in the school, with increasing popularity at GCSE and the achievement of our first results at A level.

We offer a wide range of exciting activities to support and inspire computer science students. This includes competitions such as the annual Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge, Oxford Computing Challenge and the Perse School Coding Challenge. Over the past two years we have also had pupils make it through to the finals of the BAFTA Young Game Designers competition.

In addition to competitions, we run an annual Computing trip for A level students, nominate Year 9 students to take part in the Royal Institute Masterclasses and run a number of engaging events including Robotics and Coding as part of our field week.

Working at Emanuel

There is always a buzz at Emanuel. Colleagues enjoy their work and, like the pupils, are ambitious for the school. With a weekly staff briefing, half termly staff meetings, termly consultative group meetings and a common room committee, all of us are engaged in a lively ongoing dialogue about the school's aims and aspirations.

Everyone works hard here, and anyone joining us should expect to do the same and share our commitment to the highest standards. At the same time our ethos remains unpretentious, kindly and practical, and there's a strong sense of community and friendship at the school.

We aim to look after our staff well: we have an appraisal scheme with a focus on employees' professional development; we sponsor postgraduate courses and a range of training opportunities; we offer a healthcare plan via Simply Health that includes counselling and medical support; and we're committed to supporting staff wellbeing. Financially, all staff benefit from good pension provision and free lunches.
