Royal Mail delivers to all 32 million addresses across the UK six days a week and we are active in every community. This makes us one of Britain's most talked about companies in the media. We are looking for an experienced communications pro to join our Corporate Affairs Team as Head of Corporate Media. It's an exciting time in Royal Mail's 500-year history as we modernise and transform the business to deliver a growing number of parcels while continuing to provide a universal service for letters. You'll be a key player in managing the company's reputation, communicating to our customers and wider stakeholders on the changes we are making to the business and developing news stories in line with the corporate communications calendar. Have you got a background in delivering high profile communications and managing reputation in a large business? Are you proactive and able move at pace to make decisions while also managing a busy press office? If so, we would love to hear from you. About the Role Reporting to the Deputy Director Corporate Affairs you will promote and protect Royal Mail Group's reputation with external stakeholders, particularly the UK national, regional and trade media. You will also:

  • Lead in the development of excellent external communications activity to support the delivery of the Group's strategic, transformation and financial objectives.
  • Generate compelling, high quality and accurate communications content for aspects of the financial calendar, including financial results.
  • Run communication for major corporate activity such as regulatory updates and industrial relations activity.
  • Manage delivery of briefings, speaking points, Q&A etc. as appropriate for senior business stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all communications content aligns with and actively supports the overarching narrative, communications standards, principles, and timescales.

To truly excel in this role, you will possess, and be able to evidence, the skills and experience listed below:
  • Experience working in a listed company environment. Ideally, this would be in a regulated industry, or in a unionised business.
  • Strong City media contacts and proven media relations experience - especially in reputation and or issues management.
  • Proven excellence in all forms of communications content, gained in either business, agency or media environment.
  • Thorough understanding of diverse and evolving mix of communications channels with the ability to deliver integrated plans across multiple channels.
  • Impeccable judgement and excellent writing skills.
  • Sound understanding and proven experience of measurement and research principles.

Family friendly support - enhanced maternity pay, paternity leave, adoption leave and shared parental leave
  • Discounts and offers - there are more than 800 offers to help you save on things like groceries, days out, holidays and your household bills.
  • Supportive and generous company sick pay
  • Your Wellbeing - you and your family have 24/7 access to services and tools to help you get the most out of life. From your physical and mental health to financial and social support and advice. It's free, and it's for everyone.
  • Available only to perm employees
  • Next Steps The next stage of the selection process will be a face to face interview consisting of competency based and role specific questions. Trust forms the foundation of everything we do in Royal Mail. We want to be transparent about what kind of qualities we are looking for and build trust from the very beginning of your journey with us. The first step is your interview, and we mean 'your' interview. We want to give you the opportunity to shine. To enable you to do this, we will provide you with your interview questions ahead of the interview taking place. This will allow you time to prepare, and ensure you have your best examples in mind. Royal Mail Group values both trust, and our people. We don't expect every candidate to meet the full criteria for the role. If your experience looks a little different from the job requirements, but you feel you have the relevant skills to bring value to the role, we'd love to learn more about you. Royal Mail are proud of our diverse employee network groups and the active role they play to support belonging and encourage a positive work environment. We are firmly committed to inclusion and passionate about our people representing the communities we serve. We are happy to support your need for any adjustments during the application and hiring process. Please share the details within your application if required. We are Forces family friendly and a Gold signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant. We welcome applications from ex-Armed Forces personnel, reservists, veterans, cadet instructors and military spouses/partners.
