Are you an experienced and compassionate leader in the field of mental health and counseling? We are recruiting a Head of Counselling to lead our dedicated team of professionals and make a meaningful impact on the well-being of our clients. Norfolk and Waveney Mind are working in partnership with NSFT are seeking an experienced and compassionate Head of Counselling Services to lead and oversee our dedicated counselling team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a joint venture that aims to deliver high-quality counselling services to the community. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality counselling services within the Talking Therapies service in developing and implementing strategic plans, and providing clinical supervision to staff and to ensure that the counselling service meets their KPI's and contractual obligations across a broad range of counselling models. This role requires flexibility to work in line with our service needs, including evenings as and when required. Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the Counselling Service operates in a safe, effective and efficient way as part of the Talking Therapies service.
  • Provide line management to Counselling Service Clinical Team Leaders and Clinical Supervisors.
  • In this role, you will line manage three teams, including:
  • - Two smaller teams of 1-5 members each (excluding volunteers) - One larger team of 25 members
  • Providing highly specialist clinical practice on behalf of NHS Talking Therapies service, and provide training sessions to support the clinical development of all clinical staff, supported by Clinical Supervisors.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the Counselling Service Clinical Team Leaders and Clinical Supervisors in organization of counsellors day to day working to performance standards, including compliance with clinical contract hours, reliable recovery and reliable improvement.
  • Provide leadership to trained counsellors, ensuring adherence to National Guidance including NICE.
  • To lead and assist in the development and coordination of effective audit and reporting tools for clinical supervision, practice and activity, within the Talking Therapies framework.
  • To work collaboratively with colleagues within NHS Talking Therapies, and lead and assist in the development of the wider NHS Talking Therapies service.
  • To lead and provide training sessions to support the clinical development of all clinical staff.
  • To work collaboratively within an integrated clinical and operational leadership team in providing strong clinical leadership across multiple locality teams.

    The role will require travel, therefore a driver's license and access to a vehicle essential for this role. Mileage is paid at 45p per mile for cars after your home to work base mileage is deducted., Professional doctorate level qualification in a related field (e.g. Nursing, Psychology) or equivalent knowledge.
  • Post Graduate training in counselling Relevant professional accreditation or eligible for accreditation Essential Experience: Extensive experience of working in a psychological setting with patients with common mental health disorders Experience of treating patients in a range of mental health settings including primary care, outpatient and community. Application of psychological therapies to complex mental health problem. Undertaking research as is appropriate to clinical practice and contributing to service audits and evaluation.
