Full Job Description

This is a new role for D&G at senior Leadership level and reporting into the Global Data Strategy and Assets Director. Data governance foundations is about establishing a basic set of policies around data management and governance, setting out roles within the organisation responsible for those policies, developing standards that the policies are designed to help achieve, communicating those policies and standards and finally setting up an audit framework to ensure that they are being adhered to across the group. Responsibilities

  • Establish a clear and robust data governance framework to define roles, responsibilities, and decision-making processes for data management.
  • Ensure that the Governance framework and policies are adhered to and understood, influencing the DGLG members to escalate and mitigate issues that are identified.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and security.
  • Define clear data ownership and accountability roles to ensure that individuals and teams are responsible for the quality, accuracy, and integrity of the data they manage. Promote a culture of data ownership and fosters data stewardship.
  • The data governance lead is responsible for all aspects of defining and operating the data governance framework and fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
  • Setting Data Management Policy across the D&G to establish data ownership and manage and mitigate data risk
  • Delivering and managing technology solutions to support metadata management and data quality assurance for business-critical datasets
  • Managing data acquisition and collection of ad-hoc data to support the D&G's objectives
  • Managing and fulfilling business requests for new data through a centralised process, prioritisation forum
  • Driving forward business system changes which support Data Management activities
  • Provide leadership, support, sponsorship, and understanding of data governance to other departments.
  • Create procedural documentation and associated training, for data governance framework and policies to create a consistent application of standards and processes to D&G for data quality, data management or data processing and data development standards are ad-hoc and specific to particular platforms.
  • Set out clear Data retention and audit approach with CPO.
  • Clearly define roles and responsibilities required for the effective delivery of the Data Governance Frameworks and standards.
  • Manage the implementation of the Data Governance frameworks, controls and standards, embedding Data Management principles and services to govern data across the Enterprise
  • Establish strong business relationships across all levels of the organisation to support compliance with the Data Governance Framework and associated metadata and data quality standards
  • Manage the business relationship with the Data community and ensure metadata management and data quality requirements are met by the Enterprise Data Platform
  • Be the subject matter expert on key programmes to ensure close alignment and integration between the data lake and the data catalogue
  • Perform a critical role in educating and driving Data Owners and Data Stewards to collect and define business metadata to support data cataloguing and quality assurance
