Full Job Description

Due to the continued growth of the college, we are looking to recruit a Head of Department for Science and Engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading curriculum development and innovation and deliver the highest quality teaching and learning. You will teach for four blocks a week, with the fifth block being remitted time allocated for performing your HOD management responsibilities.

Ideally the successful candidate will have taught within this curriculum area previously, or line managed one or both disciplines, but this is not essential. You will need to have a proven track record of leading a large and complex curriculum area, along with experience of managing and developing a diverse team of people. You will be responsible for ensuring the effective use of teaching and learning strategies, managing financial budgets and other resources, identifying and supporting underperforming students and continuously improving the quality of teaching, learning and assessment. Other desirable qualities include experience in setting targets and monitoring progress and the ability to effectively lead and motivate others to get the best outcomes for students.

Franklin College is a thriving, successful sixth form college serving North East Lincolnshire and the surrounding rural and coastal areas, with around 1,700 full-time 16-18 and 500 part-time adult students. We are an inclusive college with an excellent local reputation, and a firm belief in the value of effective partnerships that support student progress and success. The College has a strong focus on teaching, learning and assessment, and this was recognised in our most recent Ofsted judgement grade of Outstanding.
