As the Head of Engineering, you will be the dedicated partner to the business/function for the delivery of all software engineering solutions in their defined scope. You will be a key enabler of our business success, playing a strategic role in driving value and impact for our stakeholders and customers. You will report to the Chief Information Officer and will build and manage strong relationships with both business and technology stakeholders to support the business goals and vision. All candidates who have an extensive technology engineering and product background and are comfortable managing and leading teams both as a direct line manager and in a matrixed organisation are welcome to apply. About the Role Level: 6 Department: Technology Location: Southampton or London Contract type: Permanent Main Responsibilities 1. 2. Responsible for leading and managing a High-Performance Technical Engineering function of c.55 people and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence. 3. Experience in all people management activities including performance management, training and development and ongoing coaching of your team are essential. 4. Oversees the design, development and implementation of solutions in partnership with IT solution delivery teams, including Architecture, Infrastructure, Information Security and 3rd party solution providers. 5. Executes required deliverables through software development, test, integration and support activities adhering to the project design principles and roadmaps. 6. Defines software engineering standards and patterns and ensures consistent and effective delivery from the team. 7. Mitigates risk of delivery failure by working closely with Change Delivery teams to inform and direct decisions through effective application of quality management and governance. 8. Ensures adherence to Quilter policies and maintains an appropriate level of Governance and Assurance in conjunction with these policies. 9. Drives continuous improvement within the software engineering community of practice, recommending technical developments to improve quality of the applications software to better meet business needs. 10. Effectively leads change and initiates new and better ways of working to deliver positive customer outcomes. 11. Communicates confidently and effectively, at a senior level, both in written and verbal form. 12. Agile - makes decisions within remit and executes in a fast, simple and focused way. 13. Strong interpersonal skills, able to build and maintain positive and sometimes difficult working relationships. Proven track record within a large matrixed IT function, including systems analysis, design and application development. 3. Experience in working with both Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies. 4. Experience of leading and transforming a Software Engineering Function. 5. Visibility within the Technology function - This role office based, with the benefit of working Hybrid (2 days office/3 days at home are currently required). 6. Understanding of industry best practices and trends together with their application within a business context. 7. Experience of leading through large scale and complex change both from a Technology and People change perspective. 8. Strong stakeholder management - This role will have exposure to our Exco and will need to be able to form strong relationships and influence at all levels. 9. Experience of Microsoft Technology stack would be an advantage, (including Azure Data Factory, Logic Apps, Azure Functions & MS Dynamics), as well as experience of portal and mobile app development.
