Your role will be to embed a strong project culture around Engineering excellence, balanced with the need to satisfy client, staff and engineering expectations along with business operational performance. You'll be highly collaborative, a natural problem solver and well used to tackling the myriad challenges that complex infrastructure projects can present. Whilst the role is engineering focussed, it requires an individual with proven skills and experience across aspects of business operations including understanding project risk; people management; application of corporate systems; regulatory compliance; recruitment and staff development., A Typical Week Would Include As an experienced engineering management professional, you'll be used to facing a wide range of technical and project challenges across complex projects from initial feasibility through to delivery and operation. You will be in a leadership role providing a key senior interface to our key stakeholder and contractors, demonstrating our commitment to deliver requirements, building strong relationships, and acting as a trusted advisor. You'll work with the leadership teams to ensure that our projects are technically planned and equipped to deliver. You'll understand future resource demands for our projects and be supporting the recruitment of the skills we need for our growth projects. You'll be as passionate about people development, and you'll ensure that we have excellent project engineering leaders coming through the portfolio of projects. Using your proven leadership and communication skills, you'll be proficient at developing relationships internally and externally to the business and leveraging these to build trust, gather intelligence and, ultimately, deliver technically compliant scope in support of Major Projects. You'll be passionate, engaging, energetic and articulate when bringing diverse, multi-disciplinary teams together to address the range of engineering and technical challenges our projects face. Providing strategic direction of the key elements of engineering across the projects in the portfolio and their interrelationship to the teams. You'll also understand the importance of implementing robust systems and processes to ensure that projects deliver right first time, compliant, value for money for the key requirements as well as and cost and programme targets. In parallel with project work you'll work closely with the Site Design Authority, liaise with key Intelligent Customer disciplines and potentially with the regulator. You will provide engineering expertise to ensure that the interests of the Projects are optimised, contractual scope obligations are met, and associated risks are highlighted and actively managed. You'll ensure that appropriate engineering governance is applied throughout the lifecycle of a projects. Companywide and site-specific policies and procedures shall be communicated and operated so as to achieve the goal of engineering excellence with integrity at all times Core responsibilities will involve, but not be limited to: In some or all of the above capacities the role will be required to:

  • Lead the Major Projects engineering function, providing technical oversight, prioritisation and direction to ensure project(s) objectives are met on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate design, engineering, and safety teams to develop and deliver project requirements.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders, including contractors, regulatory bodies, and the sites Intelligent Customer engineering and safety teams.
  • Develop and maintain engineering project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with nuclear safety standards, quality assurance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate key design reviews and manage the resolution of technical issues.
  • Identify risks and implement strategies to mitigate impacts to project timelines and deliverables.
  • Report the project(s) status to the EPC Director, senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Have a good understanding of scope related NEC4 contract terms and conditions and potential flow down terms as appropriate.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of relevant international specifications and standards.
  • Key Stakeholder relationship management: act as a focal point for key stakeholder correspondence.
  • Represent the company at client / contractor / supplier meetings, which may involve international travel.

    Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field; advanced degree with a professional engineering chartership (CEng).
  • Holder of relevant Principal Designer (CDM) qualifications.
  • Proven record & experience as a Senior / Head of Project Engineering Manager or similar, ideally within the nuclear or another regulated industry.
  • Strong knowledge of nuclear safety and regulatory frameworks in the UK.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing multiple complex engineering projects with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in managing nuclear fuel, or complex nuclear projects.
  • Experience managing a team through the full project lifecycle, including design, construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Familiarity with Health & Safety legislation, particularly CDM regulations.
  • Experienced in designing processes for handling hazardous chemical (COMAR Tier 1).
  • Has experience in HAZOP process.
  • An ability to establish, build, sustain and share strong, professional relationships with relevant groups both inside and outside the organisation. You're naturally driven to exceed client expectations.
  • An ability to reason logically and apply a systematic process to finding solutions, proactive in responding to problems, able to apply sound logic in situations of ambiguity and problem-solving methodologies across a range of circumstances.
  • A deep understanding of what our major clients need, how we best tailor our services, and build trusting relationships.
