We have an exciting opportunity available for a Head of Engineering responsible for delivering innovative and efficient solar PV designs that meet the technical and regulatory requirements of our projects. As C&I Head of Engineering, you'll be an integral part of the Commercial and Industrial (C&I) Generation Team. Their role will encompass leading the Design and Electrical Engineering team to provide comprehensive support for projects across their entire lifecycle, spanning from origination through construction and into operation., As Head of Engineering, with the support of the Director of Development and CEO/COO, you will take the lead in designing and approving high-quality solar systems in support of EDF Renewables' overarching C&I business objectives. One of their primary responsibilities will be fostering a collaborative and positive working culture within the C&I engineering team, capitalising on synergies and efficiencies that benefit the entire organization.

  • Provide expertise and focus on all matters related to the engineering specification and design activities on assigned projects, ensuring that deliverables are clearly identified and aligned within timelines and budgets.
  • Manage the Engineering design activities during the front-end engineering design (FEED) and detailed design stages supporting the Work Package Managers and procurement team to ensure delivery satisfies the requirements and timescales of the project.
  • Ownership of the Project Design Management Plan to ensure a consistent approach to Engineering design such that safety, quality, programme and value are measured and balanced to deliver optimised project outcomes.
  • Lead the planning, prioritisation and coordination of suitably qualified and experienced resource to meet project requirements, including the management and supervision of any required internal or external third parties (consultants, sub-contractors, etc) for project deliverables.
  • Responsible for ensuring technical and design risks, assumptions, issues and decisions are recorded and addressed appropriately, providing technical expertise and guidance to ensure risk level is addressed through management of the design team.
  • Responsible for fully documenting all design assessments, decisions and recommendations for Design Assurance Reviews at critical phases of the project conceptual design, pre-FID design, detailed design and delivered design as defined within the Design Management Process.
  • Coordinate the development of technical specifications across various project engineering disciplines for inclusion within appropriate tender assessments across balance of plant work packages, while managing technical queries.
  • Challenge the design team through operational learning and requirements are key considerations and lifetime costs are optimised.
  • Coordinate technical and commercial due diligence, site visits, factory and site acceptance tests and support commissioning as required.
  • Interface with the various Business Unit team, including the wider CTO Central Engineering, Technical Governance and Electricity Connections.
  • Providing reports or escalations as required to the Line Manager and C&I Executive Leadership Team.

    You'll have experience in leading engineering teams in the development, design and construction of power generation projects, ideally within Commercial and Industrial Solar and you'll have an understanding of developing and delivering Solar solutions from feasibility to detailed engineering design.
  • You'll possess Project Engineering and Quality Assurance experience within the development and construction of process engineering projects, ideally within Commercial and Industrial Solar.
  • You'll have working knowledge of Engineering industry standards and design, manufacture, installation and testing codes of practice and regulations.
  • You'll have working knowledge of Construction Design and Management (CDM) regulations, design, construction and installation Codes of Practice.
  • You'll have as minimum a relevant Engineering degree or equivalent. (or extensive industry knowledge and experience)
  • Experience with Civils requirements such us loadings, roadways, foundations and work with Structural engineers to provide the design requirements.
  • Work with the planning team to ensure designs cater for design discharge requirements.
  • It would be advantageous for you to have experience and/or or a qualification in Project Management.
  • Proven experience in Commercial and Industrial solar PV system design: Both Rooftop > 1mwp and ground mount >10MWp ground-mount.
  • Proficiency in design software such as PVSyst, PVSol, AutoCAD or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes, standards and best practice pertaining to solar PV system design and installation.
  • Proven experience of design review and approval (third-party contractors or internal team members).
  • Engineering management experience - line management to include upskilling team members.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to conduct detailed site assessments and shading analysis.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and present technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Working with structural engineers for roof loadings.
  • Strong electrical knowledge - such as production of SLDs, cable calculations, HV design experience.
  • Experience of grid applications, coordination studies, management of grid offers.
  • Other Skills
  • Excellent at building successful relationships with external partners, peers, stakeholders and reporting line.
  • Good command of Microsoft Office package (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Power Point, etc.).
  • Flexible to travel around the UK and overseas as the role requires.
  • Excellent (English), oral and written, communication skills.
