An opportunity has arisen for the Academy to appoint to the post of Head of English and Media Studies. This post offers an ideal opportunity for a person who is moving into a first leadership and management post to lead and develop the English department from the start of the Spring Term (January 25). The successful candidate will teach English across the ability and age range, including post 16 and have had previous and successful experience of raising standards through their teaching of English. The successful candidate will also be committed to supporting the professional development of individual teachers and teams, and will be a high profile presence and role model to staff and students alike. Within these functions and responsibilities, s/he is expected to maintain the health of the faculty for the benefit of both students and colleagues. The right candidate will need to possess a real commitment to delivering high standards for students and to the professional development of staff. A creative leader who is passionate about the subject and who has the ability to model outstanding practice, demonstrate innovative and inspirational methods of teaching whilst also being able to motivate and inspire both teachers and students will thrive in this position. You will also have high expectations of pupil behaviour and will be able to establish a consistent level of student discipline through your team, maintaining productive and respectful relationships with students.
