Full Job Description

Head of Finance to join The Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NDCN). This exciting post is a key member of the Department's senior team and will provide top-quality finance leadership within the Department.

The post reports directly to the Head of Administration and Finance, who has overall responsibility for the Department's professional services.

You will lead financial planning and analysis including budgeting and forecasting, provide expert advice and management information to members of the Department in relation to a wide range of financial issues, and drive forward and deliver strategic project work.

You will bring your expertise to bear across the Department's finance and grants portfolio in the context of a growing, dynamic and research-active Department.

Annual turnover (General Ledger and grants combined) is currently c. £38m. You will ensure that a high quality of service is provided to all members of the NDCN by the teams for which you are responsible, providing effective leadership and role-modelling of team-working, communication and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent and hold a recognised professional accountancy qualification, such as ACA, CIMA, ACCA, or CIPFA, or be at the final stage of study for such a qualification.

They will also have demonstrable experience in a large, complex accounting environment, as well as have proven leadership, management and technical accounting skills.

Experience of working in the Higher Education sector in a research-intensive organisation is desirable. The post is full time (consideration would be given to candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 80% FTE) on a pro rata basis) and permanent.
