Your Responsibilities as Head of Department:

  • Leadership: Lead and manage the Geography department, setting high standards for teaching, learning, and student outcomes. Ensure that all members of the department are supported and motivated to perform to their best.
  • Curriculum Development: Oversee the planning and delivery of the Geography curriculum, ensuring it is challenging, engaging, and aligned with school standards. Continuously review and update the curriculum to meet the needs of students and future educational trends.
  • Team Management: Provide leadership and support to a team of Geography teachers, encouraging collaboration, professional development, and the sharing of best practices.
  • Teaching & Learning: Lead by example, delivering high-quality lessons and ensuring that teaching across the department is effective and consistent. Promote innovative teaching methods and encourage the use of technology to enhance the learning experience.
  • Assessment & Feedback: Ensure the implementation of robust assessment practices, monitoring student progress and providing constructive feedback. Analyse data to identify areas for improvement and drive strategies for student achievement.
  • Extra-Curricular Engagement: Organize and support field trips, clubs, and other activities that extend the learning experience beyond the classroom.
  • Department Development: Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the department, setting clear goals and expectations for departmental success.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with senior leadership and other departments to ensure that the Geography department contributes to the overall goals of the school.

    Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience leading a Geography department or significant experience in a senior teaching role.
  • Proven track record in delivering high-quality Geography lessons and improving student outcomes.
  • Strong knowledge of the Geography curriculum, including key stage 3, 4, and 5.
  • Experience with curriculum development and implementing departmental strategies.
  • Leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • A degree in Geography or a related subject (desirable).
  • Passion for Geography and a commitment to fostering students' academic and personal growth.
