Full Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced hands-on Head of IT to join our team. As the Head of IT, you will be responsible for overseeing the organisation's technology operations and ensuring that all aspects of the company's IT infrastructure are running smoothly. This is a senior-level position that requires strategic thinking, strong leadership skills, and an understanding of technology trends and best practices.

In this role, you will collaborate with various stakeholders to assess the organisation's technology needs and develop a comprehensive IT strategy. You will be responsible for managing the IT budget, implementing new systems and technologies, and ensuring that all IT projects are completed on time and within budget. Additionally, you will oversee the IT support team, ensuring that end users receive timely and effective technical assistance., The main responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the IT team, ensuring the end users receive timely and effective technical assistance

  • Develop and implement IT strategies and policies to support the company's business goals.

  • Analyse business requirements by working closely with management team or main stakeholders across the business to provide the best solutions

  • Ensure the security of our company's information and data by developing and implementing robust security measures to maintain compliance with customer requirements

  • Risk Management - Evaluating and mitigating risks using industry risk evaluation techniques

  • Be the subject matter expert of our internal ERP system - IFS

  • Lead and give technical guidance to cross-functional teams to successfully implement IT projects

  • Plan and execute technological changes effectively considering the business output requirements and provide training if necessary

  • Manage and maintain positive working relationships with IT Service Providers ensuring cost effectiveness

  • Managing and being responsible for the IT budget, forecast and enforcing cost-effectiveness

  • Design, create and execute data executive reporting and dashboards to support the effective management of the business

  • Assuring that IT activities are within the limits of applicable laws, codes and regulations

    The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully managing IT teams, operations, implementing complex IT projects, and leading cross-functional teams. You should have a deep understanding and experience of IT infrastructure, systems, and cybersecurity. Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear and concise language are also essential., Bachelor's degree or HND in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent

  • Proven experience in a similar leadership role, preferably as a Head of IT or IT Manager.

  • Excellent knowledge of technical management, information analysis and of computer hardware/software systems

  • Detailed understanding and knowledge of managing IFS applications 10 or other Tier 1 ERP system.

  • Experience of working with Oracle databases.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Office 365 suite

  • Working knowledge of Sophos security products.

  • In-depth understanding and knowledge of cyber security standards and procedures - ISO27001/DEFCON 658/ NIST/ Cyber essentials - particularly related to a defence business

  • Understanding of business and financial processes within a manufacturing organisation or equivalent

  • Proven track record of successfully managing IT operations and implementing complex IT projects

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills at all levels.

  • Able to build and maintain effective relationship and influence senior stakeholders

  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear and concise language

  • Pension - 3.5% E'r / min 3.5% E'ee (salary sacrifice if you want to contribute more)

  • Compressed working hours Monday - Thursday 0815 - 1700/ Friday 0815 - 1245 Half day Fridays

  • 22.5 days/ 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays (this will be pro-rata'd) Fridays is a half day holiday
