Full Job Description

We are looking for a dynamic General Manager of Maudsley Private Care who will provide overall leadership and deliver the quality outcomes, values and business results of the venture. The post holder will develop the on-going business plan, ensure the service launches successfully and deliver strategic, operational, quality and financial targets for the service and that quality indicators, national care standards and all other legislative and regulatory requirements are fully met. This role is very different to running a commissioned service because it involves a mix of managerial, clinical and entrepreneurial skills. To deliver the plan, the post holder needs to manage market risk, create an offer, develop a marketing and pricing strategy, build a supply chain, form a team and do this in a way that integrates with SLaM.
The post holder will lead the senior management team consisting of the co-Clinical Directors and Practice Manager as well as work closely with the 40 signed up clinicians.
The post holder will be a dynamic, entrepreneurial experienced manager /clinician and service lead with a track record of launching and managing a new, successful service area (clinically and commercially) and preferably of building and delivering a profitable private business. They will also be adept at working effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders to lead new service developments., · Provide leadership and strategic direction for Maudsley Private Care including development of a business plan, and sales and marketing plan.
· Establish a culture that will ensure consistent compliance with internal policies and external regulatory standards.
· Provide leadership and direction for all of the operational activities of Maudsley Private Care with the authority to make operational, financial and policy decisions as required.
+ Maximise the performance and potential of direct reports through regular performance coaching and review, and reflective practice, ensuring they meet the required standards in their current job and develop their skills and knowledge.
+ Ensure 40 clinicians are immersed in the culture of Maudsley Private Care, live its values, operate within the operating policies of the organisation and are on-boarded successfully., Leadership
Work closely with Executive Director of Maudsley Enterprise and the Director of Business Development to:
· Provide leadership and strategic direction for Maudsley Private Care including development of a business plan, and sales and marketing plan.
· Set out a vision for success and act as line manager to the senior management team within the private patient service.
· Build and maintain excellent working relationships with the 40 clinicians
· Be fully accountable for the relationships with insurers (BUPA, AXA etc.), embassies (particularly UAE, Kuwait), third party agents and other groups that can support an increase in patient numbers. This will also include forming close relationships with Maudsley Health in the UAE.
· Demonstrate strong and visible leadership and direction to all private care staff and Trust colleagues.
· Develop a strong internal communication plan so that all private patient staff and wider Trust colleagues are aware of the private patient strategy and its relevance and importance to the overall Trust financial success.
· Build a strong network of internal contacts and other key stakeholders that will support the growth of private patient activity and income.
· Work with the Trust Executive Leadership Team and relevant Board sub-committees, persuading and influencing where required as to the direction of the private patient business for both short- and longer-term strategic options.
· Engage with Clinical provider departments within other NHS and private organisations and build links to ensure private services are developed where possible.
Clinical governance and quality outcomes
Work closely with co-Clinical Directors and associated clinicians to:
· Establish a culture that will ensure consistent compliance with internal policies and external regulatory standards.
· Lead the senior clinical team in the service to ensure high standards of clinical quality, governance and integrity are delivered.
· Lead on, with the Private Care co-Clinical Directors, the running of an effective Private Patient Medical Advisory Committee ensuring membership is maintained, consultant paperwork is maintained in an accurate and timely manner, and any medical or commercial issues are raised quickly and efficiently with the committee.
· Ensure patient satisfaction levels remain consistently high and through strong leadership ensure that all private care staff embrace the expected high levels of service that will drive this continued satisfaction ensuring that the expectations of our customers both as patients and consultants are met and exceeded.
Commercial and Market Development
Work with other members of the Maudsley Enterprise team to:
· Develop and deliver the business plan for UK and International Private Patient Services: increasing patient referrals, ensuring efficient and effective operations and identifying associated new business opportunities that will generate additional revenue for the Trust for investment in local services.
· Develop and execute a marketing plan to determine marketing objectives, mix, channels for expenditure (virtual and physical), metrics to judge success, and associated market development activities (e.g. launch events, symposia, receptions at embassies, 1:1 meetings with insurers, on-line strategies, social media strategies).
· Identify the profitability of case types and build a growth plan that incorporates different case mix to deliver on budgeted income and profit.
· Be responsible for ensuring services are appropriately costed and priced for the relevant market.
· Understand developments in the healthcare economy and grow private and international patients' sector businesses through effective marketing and business development.
Financial and operational with budgetary targets
· Finalize the high-growth, high-margin Maudsley Private Care on-going business plan for both the short (1-2 year) and medium term 3-5 years.
+ Operationalise the business plan by creating budgets and contingency plans for variance
+ Monitor performance and ensure that any deviation from planned spend or shortfall in activity or margin is addressed, and remedial plans are developed and implemented so that quality outcomes are achieved as close to plan as possible

+ Adjust execution of plan in light of market dynamics.
+ Lead on business cases relating to Maudsley Private Care relating to service developments as well as items required to operationally run the service.
+ Maximise the operational efficiencies of all aspects of Maudsley Private Care.
+ Provide leadership and direction for all of the operational activities of Maudsley Private Care with the authority to make operational, financial and policy decisions as required.
+ Be responsible for all policy implementation affecting private patient activity.
+ Develop key internal Service Level Agreements (SLAs) so they can be effectively implemented and managed to allow Maudsley Private Care to operate without disrupting the Trust's core NHS business whilst still adhering to Trust standards of governance.
+ Working with the Trust finance department ensure all cash transaction are management alongside income and expenditure.
+ Alongside the practice manager manage the outsourced services which cover IT and financial transactions.
+ Champion change management projects.
+ Responsible for the implementation of appropriate information systems to meet the
specifications required to manage a successful and compliant private patient function.
+ Responsible for line-managing the senior team in Maudsley Private Care.
Research, Development and Training
Liaise closely with the Clinical Academic group leads to identify novel therapies that represent opportunities for the service:
· ensure opportunities for research (new and novel treatment options) are offered to patients and executed to high standards
· Ensure out measures are recorded for new developments
· Ensure service evaluation and audit is executed as required.
Compliance
· Lead on the development of policies and procedures in relation to private patient activity, ensuring compliance with SLaM policies where necessary.
· Ensures compliance with contractually agreed terms with private health insurers.
· Ensures compliance with mandated reporting obligations including, but not limited to, CQC, Information Commissioners Office (ICO), NHSE/I and Private Healthcare Information Network (PHIN).
People management
· Management and motivation of the senior leadership and operational teams by promoting an open learning environment, encouraging acceptance to change, and promoting innovation through empowerment.
· Maximise the performance and potential of direct reports through regular performance coaching and review, and reflective practice, ensuring they meet the required standards in their current job and develop their skills and knowledge.
· Ensuring 40 clinicians are immersed in the culture of Maudsley Private Care, live its values, operate within the operating policies of the organisation and are on-boarded successfully.
· Ensure all Private Patient staff have attended the requisite mandatory training courses.
· To recruit and retain a motivated management team who ensure these standards are reinforced within each team.
