Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity join University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) as the Head of Planning and Productivity. It would suit you if you have experience of leading a function or programme, working in an Acute Hospital, and a commitment to improving the quality, capacity and cost effectiveness of NHS care.
The Planning and Productivity team work across the entire Trust, and collaborate closely with UHS clinical services, a wide range of headquarters / support functions, and colleagues outside the trust in ICBs, Networks and NHS England.
You would work, and deputise when required, for the Director of Planning and Productivity (within the Chief Financial Officer's Directorate). Your role would be to provide strategic leadership for business/service developments, annual and longer-term planning, and financial and productivity improvement across the Trust., Lead development, and organise the delivery and oversight, of programmes contributing to productivity and financial improvement within UHS (whilst maintaining quality of care to patients).
Provide strategic leadership for the Planning function within UHS, including the development of processes, education programmes, and quality assurance.
Lead the development of more complex appraisals and proposals which are of significant importance to the Trust as a whole, including formal bids or cases for HIOW ICB and NHS England approval.
Contribute to the Annual Operating Plan, including assessment of external requirements, coordination between UHS functions, and preparation of options to respond to key Trust challenges.

You will probably have had significant experience in leading a function or programme and in managing people.
You will have broad experience with the NHS and experience in an Acute Hospital setting will be a significant advantage.
Business management qualifications and / or experience would be beneficial, for example in business case preparation, project/programme management, or financial management.
In addition to your experience and skills, a strong and enduring commitment to improving both the quality and cost-effectiveness of NHS services is essential.
