Full Job Description

The successful candidate will lead the Programme Management Office (PMO) to deliver efficient and effective programme and project management as well as secretariat support across the team. The role will oversee appropriate governance structures to enable delivery of the team’s ambitious programme of work on international maritime and aviation policy.
AMIT sits within the Resilience, Analysis, International and Sanctions Directorate at DfT, and is responsible for developing and delivering a strategic approach to influencing other countries and international organisations in order to effectively advance the UK’s aviation and maritime interests, which are at the heart of the UK’s wider Global Britain ambitions.
The wider team includes leadership of the department’s strategic approach to international engagement on aviation and maritime issues, as well as international collaboration on the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of pollution by ships through the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and the UK’s engagement with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), which is responsible for international cooperation in air transport and developing aviation policies and standards. It also develops UK trade policy objectives for maritime and aviation transport services, working closely with industry to understand sector priorities. Finally, it coordinates DfT's response to the war in Ukraine and ensures that UK transport expertise is leveraged to rebuild Ukraine's transport sector.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
+ Hold strategic oversight and lead the PMO / Secretariat team to provide excellent project management and secretariat support to AMIT by:
+ Implement tools to effectively track and provide oversight of the AMS international visits forward look. Lead the PMO /Secretariat team in the preparation of itineraries and products for international engagement and visits in line with requirements and DfT policies.
+ When required, lead in coordinating concise briefings to provide authoritative advice to SCS and Ministers, including commissioning work received from private offices. Work collaboratively with PMO colleagues across RAIS, including the Director’s Office to provide timely inputs to directorate-wide commissions.
+ Effectively line manage an HEO and maintain a positive and motivating team atmosphere, providing leadership and strategic direction.

The role will require regular travel to the other DfT offices.
