Full Job Description

  • Leadership and management of the radiotherapy Physics Service
  • Provision of expert scientific advice to staff within Radiotherapy, Radiation Services and elsewhere in the Trust
  • Leadership of and participation in relevant R&D activity in the field
  • Main duties of the job The main purposes and responsibilities of the post are leadership and management of the Radiotherapy Physics Service, including overall responsibility for the maintenance and development of the Quality Management System to ensure continuing national accreditation; overseeing the planning, development, delivery and monitoring of Radiation Physics training programmes for Velindre and Wales for Medical Physics and Clinical Oncology, scheduling the physics resources to meet ever changing demands (including manpower and accommodation) and leadership of and participation in relevant R&D activity in the field. Clinical proficiency and experience is expected to be maintained through leadership of and participation in Departmental service activities as required, e.g. problem solving & advising on difficult patient and equipment related dosimetric issues, research, development and implementation of new techniques, and advising professionally at all levels up to UK national and international boards. The tasks carried out are for staff, groups of patients, and individual patients. The cure of patients depends critically on the standard of work, and without it patients cannot be treated. Thus all the above responsibilities require that the post-holder be a Medical Physics Expert (MPE)
