Full Job Description

The Head ofStrategicSolutions will have a passion and drive for business development, technical problem solving with focus on developingstrategicopportunities, new and emerging technologies for which Howden Turbo steam turbine solutions would be applicable and developing sales strategies for new market sectors. The Head ofStrategicSolutions seeks out and manages all new client activity during the various business and project development phases from its initial conception to one that can be bid and managed through the sales process to successful order placement. The Head ofStrategicSolutions must possess knowledge and understanding of steam turbines to be able to liaise with customers at both technical and commercial level to identify and drive suitable opportunities in which Howden Turbo can add value to the client. The position will require interaction with the Product Development team and isresponsiblefor defining the needs of the client in terms of our product development activities.,

  • This technical and commercial capability of this role will initially focus in the future proofing of the business in the extended Maritime market, Nuclear SMR, Naval and any other high specification led applications
  • This role will focus onstrategicopportunities and new revenue streams for Howden Turbo steam turbines to identify and develop the longer term pipeline
  • In identifying new markets and applications for Howden Turbo steam turbines the role will also define the route to market and importantly identify the market entry requirements.
  • The early phase of this role will certainly focus on the Business Development aspect of the role in seeking out those new markets as defined above
  • Travel to and meet with clients (worldwide) to fully understand their requirements
  • Effective communication and translation of client needs in to clearly defined requirements for the product development team are essential and it is expected that regular meeting and feedback will take place with the Product Development team
  • Structured planning and reporting of new opportunities will be shared with the Director-Steam Turbines
  • Review customer enquiries, recognising and identifying key technical and commercial criteria
  • Review customer specifications which may include chairing specification review meetings with the wider engineering team
  • Work to customer driven deadlines
  • Attend bid clarification meetings at customer locations worldwide
  • Work with sales tools (CRM), methods and strategies
  • Additional Tasks (in conjunction with other functions within the company)
  • Attend international exhibitions to converse with customers and suppliers
  • Work with SCM both internally and throughout the Howden regional network to find and evaluate potential new sub vendors that align with our product offering and add value to our solution
  • Supporting and providing input in to marketing literature and marketing data

    Expert experience and knowledge of sales management tools, practices and methodology (Miller Heiman preferred)
  • Knowledge of steam turbines and steam cycle (other high speed rotating machinery may be considered)
  • Excellent communicator with proven leadership skills and the ability to influence at all levels
  • Tenacious and demanding with the ability to hold key stakeholders & functions accountable
  • Excellent business & commercial acumen and customer negotiation skills
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal
