Full Job Description

The position of Head of Year within the newly established Sixth Form at Wren Academy Enfield is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of post-16 education in the borough. As we prepare to open our sixth form in September 2025, this role will be influential in building a high-quality, supportive, and academically rigorous environment for our students. Joining at this crucial moment offers the chance to influence the direction and vision of our sixth form, helping to cultivate a community that is essential in realising the academy's vision for a high-achieving, supportive, and aspirational sixth form that prepares students for the next stages in life, whether that be higher education, vocational pathways, or career pursuits. A significant responsibility within this role includes supporting and preparing students for UCAS and other post-secondary applications, with a strong emphasis on equipping students to gain entry to the most competitive universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. This involves providing tailored guidance on course selection, crafting compelling personal statements, and interview preparation, along with specialist support for students aiming for Oxbridge. By facilitating exposure to high-level academic resources, mock interviews, and workshops, the Head of Year ensures students have the confidence, insight, and preparation needed to excel in these highly selective application processes. The Head of Year - Sixth Form also upholds high standards across safeguarding, teaching and learning, strategic planning, and behaviour management. Through collaboration with senior leaders and staff, this leader initiates and implements programs that foster a culture of resilience, ambition, and inclusivity within the sixth form. Building strong, positive relationships with students, staff, and parents is key to creating a nurturing environment that promotes academic achievement, personal growth, and well-being. Further responsibilities include overseeing the quality of A Level instruction and supporting the professional development of sixth form staff, while actively addressing any instances of underachievement. By implementing targeted intervention strategies, the Head of Year helps students overcome challenges and achieve their academic and personal goals. More than academic and pastoral oversight, this role offers the unique opportunity to shape students' character, aspirations, and readiness for life beyond school. By fostering a dynamic and inclusive Sixth Form community that embodies Wren Academy's values, the Head of Year contributes to a legacy of excellence, helping students emerge as confident, capable, and compassionate individuals ready to make meaningful contributions to society and succeed at the most prestigious institutions. The Trust is a forward-thinking organisation which welcomes colleagues who are enthusiastic and ready to help create powerful and effective learning experiences for all students. The Religious Studies faculty is a thriving part of the Wren Academy community with a curriculum which is innovative and focused on developing students' lifelong love of learning, as well as achieving outstanding examination success.
