  • 1x role for either 'Head of' classics and latin or 'Teacher of' classics and latin (please specify in your application which role you are applying for)
  • Full time, temporary maternity cover April 2025 until March 2026
  • Salary: £34,100- £49,164FTE (dependent on experience) + M&L9 for the head of classics (£8,047)
  • Do you have the drive to inspire students with a love for Latin and the Classical world, and lead a vibrant department? We're looking for a passionate Head of Classics and Latin OR a Teacher of Classics and Latin to cover maternity leave from April 2025 until March 2026. This position is open to either Head or Teacher of Classics and Latin. Please say which role you are applying for in your application. As the Head of Classics and Latin, you will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of teaching and learning, ensuring students excel across the full age and ability range (11-18). You will oversee a team of dedicated professionals, guiding their work, monitoring performance, and fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and academic excellence. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Leading and managing the department to achieve exceptional exam results
  • Developing engaging and challenging lessons that inspire a love for Latin, and Classical Civilisation
  • Coordinating external exam entries and preparing students for highly competitive courses
  • Overseeing departmental resources, curriculum development, and co-curricular activities
  • The Classics department is a collaborative and passionate team made up of three full time colleagues. In Year 7, all students begin their Classical studies by being immersed in Greek mythology and history. In the spring term, they start to learn Latin using the new Suburani reading course, which students continue to use up until the end of Year 11. This offers engaging stories with a clear pathway to GCSE, opportunities to develop understanding of the Roman world and an excellent digital platform for all students. Sixth form students have the opportunity to study both Latin and Classical Civilisation. The Classics department currently runs a trip to Hadrian's Wall and offers trips to Italy for GCSE and A Level students.
