Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to expand our Headache Disorder Clinical Nurse Specialist workforce.
Headaches are one of the most common Neurological conditions, presented to GP's and Neurologist's, with NHS England reporting an annual increase in hospital admissions for Headache's and Migraines.
The Headache Nurse will be involved in a range of clinical responsibilities, positively contributing towards the experience of the patient with Headache Disorders. Following training, the Clinical Nurse Specialist will work as part of a clinical team supporting inpatient activity, hot clinics and training within the organisation, as well as outpatient activity. You will provide assessments and treatments for Headache disorders, whilst monitoring the patients response to treatment., + A high profile, accessible and responsive leader with clinical responsibilities for a defined group of patients
+ Able to make informed decisions within their own area and scope of professional practice to ensure agreed standards, objectives and targets are met.
+ To maintain a professional attitude at all times, developing the role of the nurse in the best interests of the patient and profession in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct.
+ To integrate into the existing clinical structure and to support other professionals to manage the patients.
+ To promote effective communication with all members of the multiprofessional team in relation to management of the patients.
+ To act as a role model for members of the multiprofessional team in the expansion of practice to manage the patients., 1. The CNS will be responsible for the review of patients in follow up clinics, with consultant neurologists.
2.The CNS will be expected to develop clinical sessions for new patients, which may include the provision of additional clinics subject to the availability of consultant neurologists.
3. The CNS will take a detailed clinical history for each new patient and conduct a neurological examination of each new patient.
4. Investigations requested by consultant neurologists will be monitored and reviewed by the CNS who will inform General Practitioners and patients of the results by professionally appropriate letters.
5.Local protocols will be formulated by the CNS and disseminated to General Practitioners to guide their treatment strategies.
6.Treatment protocols will be reviewed and monitored annually by the CNS to ensure clinical relevance, accuracy and research evidence base using department of health literature, I.H.S criteria and BASH guidelines. The CNS will ensure that all protocols are agreed with the consultant neurologists.
7.The CNS will provide patients and carers with verbal and written education on their disorder and will also provide support and counselling.
