Full Job Description

The Health Care Assistant will have an appreciation and knowledge of unit procedures, competency based clinical observations, and will be able to organise day to day tasks and activities based on an agreed work plan.

This role will work with more experienced Registered and Unregistered practitioners providing support to both health and social care professionals. The aim is to assess the service users within a short period of time and identify the most appropriate treatment pathway., Your role will include working closely with the service users.

1.1 supportive observations

support the MDT by giving them detailed information that will support the team to make a safe and accurate assessment.

Follow the infection control, safeguarding and trust policies.

Attend all mandatory Training,

You will be required to attend RESPECT training ( Physical restraint training)

Carry out physical health observations, such as checking vital signs etc, and report back to the nursing team.

  • display a considerable degree of initiative and possess mature judgment

  • maintain a calm, friendly and efficient manner when dealing with service users, their relatives, the police, colleagues and visitors

  • have experience in mental health

  • have experience of caring for vulnerable adults, NVQ 3 or equivalent, Some experience in a caring role

  • Some experience in mental health

    Essential criteria

  • Keeps accurate and complete records and communication consistent with legislation, policies and procedures


  • Desirable criteria

  • De escalation in managing verbal aggression of disturbed service users, Knowledge and ability to positively manage change

  • Ability to identify and manage changes to clinical risks

  • Demonstrate good decision making skills, Car driver (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010 which prevents you from driving
