Full Job Description
To maintain a clean and a tidy environment, for patients, staff and visitors. Deliver basic and Person Centred nursing care to patients. Ensure all cleaning schedules are kept up to date. Assist in the needs of patients, visitors and staff and maintain a good working relationship within the team. Organise and prioritise own workload., 1. Serve meals and drinks to patients, and assist patients as necessary. 2. Undertake the daily cleaning/disinfecting of bed/trolleys/lockers and other equipment in accordance with Infection Control Policies. 3. Undertake the safe transfer and escort of patients as directed by the Healthcare Professional 4. Ensure safe moving and positioning of patients including the use of mechanical aids and bed appliances and in accordance with agreed moving and handling practice. 5. Assist patients to use toilet facilities including commodes, toilet utensils etc 6. Deliver basic nursing care to patients using guidance and initiative; including washing, dressing, feeding, re-positioning, pressure area relief / turning patients, mouth care, mobilisation. 7. Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations 8. When trained to do so - accurately record patients' basic observations (temperature, Pulse, Blood pressure Saturated Oxygen using finger probe and other observations according to training given & competency review) and blood sugar levels. 9. Have a workable knowledge of the general and specific infection control measures and related issues. 10. Check and ensure all equipment prior to admission is present and in good working order e.g. linen, suction, hoist, weighing scale. 11. Ensure that day-to-day stock levels are maintained e.g. linen, disposable bedpans, urinals, wash bowls. Order and replace as appropriate 12. Store all supplies and equipment, and report any discrepancies 13. Undertake in the cleaning of clinical areas and equipment, ensuring that the area is clear of potential hazards, removing soiled linen & clinical waste. Cleaning of commodes as per infection control policy. 14. Assist nursing staff with effective stock control and cost effectiveness via on-line ordering. 15. Answer telephone, take, and record/ transmit messages to qualified staff. 16. Carry out errands between wards/departments, including the collection and delivery of specimens to the laboratory 17. In the absence of the Ward Aid enter patient information on a computerised Patient Administration System (P.A.S.), and perform general office duties e.g. filing, photocopying and use of facsimile as required. 18. Ordering of departmental food / drink provisions, ensuring that all stocks delivered to the ward are appropriately stored. 19. Cleaning of kitchen areas including appliances. 20. The health care Assistant is Key to keeping the clinical area clean & tidy & free from hazards, and making it a priority to keep cleaning schedules up-to-date & signed for audit purposes. Communication · Ensure effective communication and maintain a good liaison when dealing with patients, visitors and work colleagues. · Maintain a confidential and professional approach when dealing with patients, their relatives and other professionals, e.g.Multi Disciplinary Teams. · Participate in regular staff meetings. · Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others · Comply with complaints policies and procedures · Report any concern regarding patient care to senior nurse, · Develop own skills and knowledge and contribute to the development of others e.g. peers & apprentices · Attend statutory and mandatory training as required · Organize own annual Personal Development Review, personal development plan with allocated reviewer, and maintain personal development portfolio. Achieve agreed learning objectives. · Contribute to the development of the service. HEALTH AND SAFETY · To comply with safety policies, procedures and guidelines for self and others. · To refrain from the wilful misuse or interference with equipment provided in the interest of Health and Safety. · To report as soon as is practically possible any hazards or defects. · To report as soon as is practically possible accidents or untoward incidents and to ensure appropriate incident reporting documentation is completed.

You should have good communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to work effectively as part of the team and deal with complex sensitive information in a professional manner.,
- Proven ability to understand and comply with detailed procedures.
- Clear and accurate written/verbal Communication and effective listening skills.
- Demonstrate ability to work on a rota, including nights and weekends and to provide reasonable flexibility in terms of hours worked.

- Previous care experience NVQ Level II in Care
- GCSE level C (or equivalent) English & Maths
- Familiar with hospital PAS
