Full Job Description

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Health and Safety Advisor with particular interest in patient handling to join our team.We are looking for someone who is comfortable to work across our hospital sites to promote good health and safety management across a wide variety of clinical and non-clinical workplaces. As a member of the multi-skilled Health and Safety Services team working across North Bristol NHS Trust, you will be responsible for reviewing incidents, identifying risk trends and providing advice to individuals and teams, working towards promoting a safe working environment for Trust staff, visitors and contractors. The Health and Safety Services team includes Health and Safety, Manual Handling and specialist Fire Advisors, and works in collaboration with a wide range of other teams within NBT and partner organisations.,

  • Provide specialist health and safety advice, guidance and support across the Trust
  • Review incidents reported using trust reporting tool (Datix), providing feedback to reporter and identifying incidents requiring further investigation
  • Liaison with other Trust advisors, advising them of incidents and ensuring that there is a consistent approach to health and safety matters
  • Liaise with all levels of management and staff throughout the Trust
  • Design and deliver health and safety training
  • Promote a positive safety culture throughout the Trust
  • Review and produce written policies, guidance, information leaflets and reports on health and safety; interpreting and advising on health and safety law in a way which complies with legal requirements and reflects the Trusts systems and improves safety culture
  • Participate in health and safety projects in the wider field of risk management, providing reports for consideration at relevant Committees and Groups
  • Provide advice and guidance to managers, risk leads and assessors to ensure the undertaking of assessments of health and safety risks and that these are managed in accordance with Trust policy
  • Provide advice to clinical staff about use of manual handling equipment and techniques
  • Carry out health and safety investigations ensuring appropriate management action is taken in response to any reported situation which may constitute a breach of health and safety legislation or may possibly results in enforcement action or legal proceedings
