Full Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Health and Safety Advisor support the Health and Safety Manager in implementing, monitoring and improving the health and safety standards and culture at Kew.
This post is both a professional and managerial role with responsibility for managing and developing the day to day to operation of the Health and Safety Department including its delivery of advice, incident investigation, pro-active inspections and policy development to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers and visitors in addition to your own work load. The work of the team is varied and covers a range of topics such as workplace health, horticulture, science, education, event safety as well as being a major visitor attraction. The work is fast paced and no two days are ever the same with the bonus of working in two beautiful sites, one of which is a UNESCO World Heritage site., You should have a degree in a related discipline and NEBOSH National diploma or equivalent. You will need a firm understanding of applying health and safety law and related principles with the ability to provide competent and helpful support to colleagues. You will need to have the ability to initiate improvement and to use expertise to find creative solutions to Kew’s business needs while remaining compliant with UK legislation., This role is based at Kew with the option of hybrid working however you will need to be on site for at least 40% of your time. Operational requirements may necessitate that you will need to be on site more frequently and particularly during the probation period.

Leadership and management skills to motivate, coach and mentor H&S team and others in relation to health & safety are essential. You will need to have good persuasion and communication skills both oral and written. You should have experience of developing and embedding tailored policies and procedures in medium to large organisations., Interviews are due to take place in the middle of October. A provisional start date of 18th November has been set., Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check.
