Full Job Description

Use a strengths-based approach to work with service users with disabilities or health needs to provide personal care, general support and practical help which will encourage the service user to achieve continued independence, relative to their needs. This post requires the post holder to have a flexible approach to work location, duties and hours, including shift work and working evenings/weekends and sleep ins.
These are some of the typical duties you will be expected to perform. This is not exhaustive, and you may need to complete similar tasks as required.
To assist in the implementation of the care plan by carrying out the required personal care tasks; practical and hygiene tasks; and assistance with financial, social and recreational activities.
To be involved in a working relationship with service users and carers within the care plan. To appropriately involve service users at all times, ensuring the constant promotion of the individual's right to dignity, respect and choice.
To work as a member of a team sharing relevant information about service users and the general running of the service in a timely and professional manner. To keep senior staff informed of any changes (medical, physical, mental or social) in the service user's circumstances.
To complete observations and recording to provide information regarding service user progress against the care plan.
To contribute to the continued safe operation of the service through adherence to the health, safety, and security procedures of the service.
To identify risks of harm and abuse to individuals and take necessary action to deal with this.
To ensure personal and professional development by participating in support, supervision, appraisal and training programmes as required.
To participate in working parties and planning groups as directed by the Resource Manager.
To promote a positive customer experience within the service.
To promote and implement our Diversity, Equality, Equity, and Accessibility policy in all aspects of your employment.
To help maintain a healthy, safe, and secure environment and to adhere to our policies and procedure.

Clear motivation for undertaking an Apprenticeship in Level 2 Adult Care Worker.
Level 2 qualifications in Maths & English (equivalent to a GCSE grade 4 / C or above).
Ability to work as part of a team to achieve shared outcomes.
Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines.
Ability to follow work instructions and work within strict guidelines, including policies and procedures
Ability to deal confidently, calmly and effectively with difficult situations
Ability to work to own initiative and as part of a wider team
Ability to work shifts and unsociable hours
Ability to promote a positive customer experience
Ability to treat everyone equally and in ways that respects diversity and difference

We'll support you to learn new skills, and to thrive in your role, undertaking a Level 2 Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship Qualification. The role is full time (37 hours per week) for a fixed term of 18 months. At Newcastle City Council our apprentices are paid a percentage of the salary for the role the apprentice is working towards. This is always at least National Minimum Wage and increases each year as you develop your knowledge and skills.

This apprenticeship role is working towards the full role of Health and Social Care Officer (N4).

In Y1 you will be paid STATE% of the salary rate, or NMW, whichever is higher. Repeat for any further years. The pay points (%) should be taken from the Apprentice Pay Policy.
