Full Job Description

The Health and Wellbeing Coach will work in the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland community providing health and lifestyle coaching and care co-ordination within their areas.

This will include:

  • Independently running health & wellbeing workshops/exercise classes in a group, in a virtual setting or face to face to NHS service users experiencing mental wellbeing difficulties, who may also experience long term health conditions.

  • Independently conducting health & lifestyle initial appointments and 1-1 sessions via telephone or video call. The Healthy Living Healthy Minds programme aims to help improve service user's wellbeing by focusing on improving lifestyle factors, such as physical activity levels and healthier eating. Thus, in-depth coaching sessions are important to address the causes and barriers to improving lifestyle.

  • Contributing to the Healthy Living Healthy Minds programme development and assisting in producing resources.

  • For candidates who do not hold the training for Level 3 GP Referral (also known as Level 3 Exercise Referral), this will be provided and will be expected to be completed within the first 6 months of employment (funded by Vita Health Group)., We are committed to being equitable and supporting the wellbeing of all employees.

  • Minimum level 3 accredited qualification in personal training or exercise instruction (such as REPs or CIMSPA)

  • Level 3 GP Referral (Also known as Level 3 Exercise Referral) or willing to work towards this during the first 6 months in post (funded by Vita health Group)

  • Experience of delivering face-to-face or virtual exercise classes

  • Experience of working individually and within a team

  • Ability to encourage behavioural changes, and design individualised health & wellbeing plans

  • Sound health and wellbeing knowledge including exercise and nutrition

  • Experience of working with people experiencing mental wellbeing difficulties

  • Basic knowledge of the Talking Therapies mental health service

  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office

  • Adept in time management and prioritisation

  • Friendly and approachable with excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • An awareness of and commitment to supporting and facilitating diversity and inclusion

  • Willingness to travel, which may include overnight stays on occasion, as and when required

  • Willingness to work Monday evenings


  • Desirable:
  • Prior NHS or healthcare setting experience

  • Certificate / diploma in behavioural change, personal coaching, or motivational interviewing

  • Recognized qualifications in exercise class instruction, Disability Confident
