Full Job Description
An opportunity has arisen to work for the day facility which comprises of a busy day unit and outpatient clinical area. The work load is fast paced with a quick turn around for patients requiring tests or treatments in the day unit. Both the day unit and the clinics are located in the same area and patients will normally interface both areas often within the same day. The team will work together and interchangeably within the whole area. The day unit primarily specialises in metabolic and endocrine testing, however it also takes referrals for day cases from other specialties. The clinics house growth hormone clinics, thyroid patient care, osteoporosis care and all manner of diabetic care such as foot care, sexual health and metabolic liver diseases, retinal screening and a young persons clinics. This position requires a person with phlebotomy skill, Cerner system knowledge, strong organizational skills, flexibility and good interpersonal skills. It is expected you will support and train other team members. You will be supported to do this. You'll be working in a team of outpatient assistants. You will have experience of dealing with patients / customers in a healthcare setting and be understanding of patient and staff needs. Given the varied nature of this role you must be keen to learn and develop new skills and have a proven track record of reliability and punctuality.
- To carry out assigned tasks involving direct patient care to a specified standard.
- To carry out tasks including cannulation, phlebotomy, ecg, urinalysis and taking blood pressure, respiratory rate, pulse and temperatures.
- To possess the ability and skills required to perform observations and blood glucose monitoring of patients when required.
- To act as receptionist when required, greeting patients, registering their arrival and directing them to the appropriate waiting area.
- To provide administrative support to the clinical team as requested i.e. completing forms, delivering investigation requests to other departments/wards.
- To attend training and annual update in Cardiac arrest procedure, Infection Control, Moving and Handling and Fire policy.
