Full Job Description

One Ashford Hospital, Kent has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly Outpatients team.

Reporting to the Outpatients Manager, as a Healthcare Assistant you will:

o Assist the Registered Nurses to care for patients following surgical, investigative or medical procedures in line with national guidelines, hospital policies and best practice standards
o Work as part of a highly trained and experienced team, exercising initiative and prioritising workloads whilst following departmental policies and procedures., o Support our Registered Nurses in the implementation of an agreed plan of care with the patient
o Help promote and maintain a caring, supportive environment focused on meeting the needs of the patient/relatives/carer, working collaboratively with other departments to achieve this
o Look after the physical comfort of patients, for example helping them with activities of daily living.
o Take basic observations such as blood pressure and temperature, height and weight, utilising the early warning score system as per hospital policy and escalate appropriately to the trained nurse
o Listen and talk to patients, helping them to feel supported and safe
o Assist with keeping the department clean and tidy, for example cleaning of equipment, adhering to infection prevention and control policy and hospital procedures at all times
o Keep supplies and equipment in order, assisting in the maintenance of stock levels
o Maintain contemporaneous patient records including patient pathways and the relevant IT reporting systems are up-to-date and accurate ensuring countersigned by a trained nurse.
o Chaperone when required

o Minimum GCSE education or equivalent
o NVQ or equivalent, Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care preferred
o Care Certificate

EXPERIENCE:

o Ability to learn and develop and undertake appropriate training
o Some health care experience in a hospital environment

SKILLS:

o Caring, patient and customer focused
o Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the business
o Basic computer skills
o Sound written and verbal communication skills

DESIRABLES:

o Experience in private healthcare
o Competence in phlebotomy, cannulation and taking ECGs
