Full Job Description

In this role, you will have the opportunity to personally make a difference to our patients lives and the lives of their carers and relatives every single day. Our Healthcare Support Workers are at the heart of our multidisciplinary teams who support our patients by assisting the Registered Nurses in planning, delivering and evaluating care. This will require you to:

  • be able to communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals, both verbally and in writing;
  • share our commitment to maintaining high standards in everything we do;
  • demonstrate that you can work effectively within a team that behaves in accordance with our values.
  • The roles are varied and busy as you will be working a variety of shifts including long days, nights, weekends and bank holidays. We will support you to achieve full training for your core duties at our award-winning Healthcare Academy. This will include achievement of a national Care Certificate, an introduction to the essentials you will need to be a Healthcare Support Worker at the Trust, and a commitment to supporting your continued development.

    No previous experience in a health care setting is required. It is essential that within your application you are able to demonstrate an understanding of the role and responsibilities, able to prove how you develop and maintain positive working relationships, along with evidencing how you would demonstrate our Trust values of respect, improving, caring, and high standards. The minimum hours available for this role is 23 hours per week. You must be able to commit to the standard shift pattern for this role which includes long days, nights, weekend and bank holidays.

    We are an acute trust caring for over one million people in Wakefield and Kirklees. Our 10,000 staff work in patients homes, the community, and our three hospitals in Pontefract, Dewsbury, and Pinderfields (Wakefield). We prioritise our people and values so we can deliver the best possible care to patients. Our team is friendly, passionate, and innovative, always seeking better ways to work. We support work-life balance and foster a diverse, inclusive environment where everyone belongs. Our staff networks offer safe spaces to share ideas and concerns so we can increase awareness and appreciation of equality, diversity, and inclusion. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and especially encourage members of the LGBTQ+ community, ethnic minority groups, and people with disabilities or neurodivergence to apply, as they are currently underrepresented in the Trust. If you value caring, high standards, improvement, and respect, join the MY team to make a difference every day.
