Health Care Support Worker Band 2 to band 3 progression (Full or Part Time) - Various departments across Whittington Health - Hospital Site We are looking for enthusiastic, kind and compassionate, motivated individuals to join our hospital teams in delivering a high standard of patient-centred care on our dynamic and friendly units. As important and vital members of our team, we know that you are often the first person our patients talk with and trust. We are keen to support you in this role and help you develop. Applicants will be supported on a training programme and paid at a Band 2 until their Band 3 competencies are signed off at which point you will be uplifted to a Band 3. You will be supported to achieve this by the HCSW Development team. You will have the opportunity to undertake the Care Certificate, and we have already had a significant number of candidates who have successfully gained their Care Certificate whilst working with us. If you are 18 or above and demonstrate empathy and compassion and share our ethos of maintaining patients' self-respect and dignity, we would be delighted to hear from you. If you are shortlisted, our recruitment and selection process for all candidates is as follows: You will be invited to undertake a literacy and numeracy test. If you are successful in passing our literacy and numeracy test you will be invited for interview. - Communicate clearly, effectively, and appropriately with the multidisciplinary team, patients, and their family/visitors/carers
- Provide basic information to patients, family/visitors/carers, and colleagues.
- Aware of the importance of accurate documentation and contribute to reports of patients' activity and progress. Education and professional development
- Understand own level of responsibility and accountability in relation to trained staff.
- Identify own learning needs and produce a personal development plan in conjunction with the ward sister/charge nurse as part of your annual appraisal
- Take part in reflection and appropriate learning from practice, in order to maintain and develop competence and performance. Risk and governance management
- Report any issues at work that may put health, safety, and security at risk.
- Summon immediate help for any emergency and take appropriate action to contain it
- Understand the principles and practice of Infection Control Service development
- Ensure a welcoming, caring, and safe environment is provided for the patient and their family/visitors/carers.
- Aware of and maintains required standard of care.
- Ensure that patient areas are kept clean and tidy.
- Comply with Trust/local policies and procedures. Professional and clinical responsibilities · Assist the patient to be as comfortable as possible, i.e., help with moving and positioning the patient, or mobilising the patient using appropriate equipment and handling techniques · Involve the patient in shared decision-making and obtain their consent before undertaking nursing procedures. · Support and encourage the patient to meet their own health and wellbeing needs. - Able to use IT (Information Technology) at a basic level to input and retrieve information.
