Full Job Description

A career as a Healthcare Support Worker offers a fantastic entry point into the NHS, with opportunities for training and progression, including access to nursing apprenticeships.

As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will work closely with service users, their families, friends, and carers. You will be essential in ensuring those who use our services have a positive experience and work as part of our dedicated multi-disciplinary team comprising nurses, healthcare support workers, social workers, occupational therapists, psychologists, specialist therapists, and psychiatrists.

Situated at Tatchbury Mount, on the edge of the New Forest, our four units specialise in mental health services for Southampton and Hampshire. While each unit has its distinctions, the essence of the role remains constant. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you play a crucial role in ensuring positive and supportive experiences for our service users.

It is a 24/7 service, with a mixture of daytimes (starting at 7am) and nights (starting at 7:30/8pm), including weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

Austen House: A 14-bed, low secure hospital for children and adolescents (aged 12-18) dealing with complex mental health needs, providing a secure space for those at risk to themselves.

Bluebird House: A rare Forensic Children's mental health unit accepting both male and female patients, providing a safe and controlled environment for complex cases.

We're looking for kind and compassionate individuals who can contribute professionally to the quality of our services. Join us for a rewarding career with distinctive challenges, where you'll receive supervision from a Registered Nurse and be encouraged to progress within Southern Health. Whether you bring experience with challenging behaviours or simply possess a compassionate nature, we value your commitment to our Trust values, teamwork, and patient-focused mindset. If you're ready for a fulfilling journey making a meaningful impact, we welcome your application.

Southern Health is one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK, specialising in mental health and learning disabilities, as well as offering physical health community-based services.

With a workforce of more than 7000 and a footprint that spans more than 200 sites across Hampshire, we're wholeheartedly committed to providing the best possible healthcare, reaching a range of diverse communities, whilst placing patients and staff at the forefront of all our endeavours.

We are currently working closely with other NHS Trusts to integrate all our collective community, mental health, and learning disability services. Our new organisation, to be known as Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust, is set to launch in July 2024.

The transformation will happen in staggered stages; Hampshire CAMHS, part of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust joined Southern Health in February 2024, with Isle of Wight NHS Trust mental health and community services transitioning in early May 2024. The final combination of Southern Health and Solent Trusts is anticipated to occur in July 2024, when the new organisation will be formed.

Our new Trust will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, making healthcare across the county more accessible, as well as offering staff more opportunities for career development, training and partnership working.

Join us as we embark on this exciting journey to shape the future of healthcare in Hampshire.
