Hepatology Clinical Nurse Specialist

The post holder will work alongside the Advanced Clinical Practitioner and CNS's to gain invaluable experience in the assessment and management of patients with liver disease.
The role will require the post holder to complete level 7 academic qualifications to facilitate advanced procedural skills, including abdominal paracentesis, for patients with decompensated liver disease. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to complete an Independent and Supplementary Prescribing module to facilitate working as an autonomous
practitioner. Practitioners will have the opportunity to progress to band 7 once they have completed an Independent and Supplementary Prescribing qualification.
We encourage applications from qualified nurses with experience in Hepatology who would like to further develop and widen their clinical expertise., Work alongside the Hepatology ACP/CNS colleagues in the delivery of the Abdominal Paracentesis Service and Ambulatory Assessment Unit
· Appropriately manage the Hepatology CNS phone and email advice line and escalate queries to senior colleagues when required
· Complete a master's level module in Advanced History Taking and the Hepatology Nurse Paracentesis Competency Workbook to develop advanced procedural skills and become an autonomous practitioner in performing abdominal paracentesis.
· Complete appropriate training and competency workbook to be able to perform Fibroscans and provide future training for new members of staff
· Manage the haemochromatosis service providing regular venesections and ensuring strict monitoring of patients within their maintenance phase
· Refer patients to the Hepatology@Home service and maintain regular attendance to the Hospital@Home MDT, supporting the ACP when providing Hepatology advice for the management of patients within the community
·Maintain the joint OXF/RFH Liver Transplant database and be a point of contact for patients active on the waiting list
· To contribute to training and education within hepatology and the wider trust. To represent the team regionally at liver nurse forums
· Contribute to the on-going development of the service and help in the undertaking of clinical audits relevant to the area of expertise, · To participate in and manage caseload of hepatology patients within nurse led clinics across the hepatology service
· Assist in the assessment of patients attending the Hepatology Ambulatory Unit and administer medication prescribed by senior clinical staff
· Provide non-pharmacological advice and guidance when managing patients with Advanced Liver Disease
· Maintain a professional behaviour at all times in line with OUH NHS Foundation Trust and World Class Care values
· Ensure that the needs of patients are placed at the centre of care delivery, thus achieving trust and national standards for clinical quality, safety and patient experience
· Provide professional, clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and associated staff, and ensure the provision of a high quality, responsive hepatology nursing service.
· Collaborate on all aspects of quality management related to hepatology nursing and clinical area
· Assist in the evaluation of the hepatology service and patient care, including monitoring of patient experience
· Lead the implementation of improvements in hepatology nursing practices within own areas of responsibility in line with local and national agenda and patient feedback
· To have a thorough understanding of safeguarding procedures and knowledgeable with respect to safeguarding triggers and risks
· Recognise the limits of own hepatology clinical knowledge/skills and to seek support from the senior Advanced Clinical Practitioner/medical team whenever needed to provide safe, effective and timely patient care
· To contribute to the investigation of complaints and untoward incidents and ensure recommendations and related education/training programmes/action plans are implemented
· To promote new and innovative forms of hepatology nursing practice, supported by relevant education and training plans, to deliver care that enhances access to the department and specialist services
· Maintain awareness of relevant research, evaluations and audit, and act on this information in collaboration with colleagues to continually develop the service
· Direct and support hepatology nursing staff in their commitment to advancing nursing / clinical practice through the use of research and the implementation of evidence-based practice
· To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own clinical and professional activities

We have an exciting opportunity for a registered adult nurse to join the Hepatology Clinical Nurse Specialist Team at the Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust. The Hepatology CNS Team currently operates a five-day ambulatory service, delivering nurse-led assessments for patients with diverse aetiologies of liver disease. The Hepatology Ambulatory Unit is integrally located within the Hepatology department, serving as a central hub for multidisciplinary collaboration. The service strives to achieve reducing hospital admissions, reducing inpatient length of stay, reducing A&E attendances and accommodating urgent assessments from primary care., Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country.
