Full Job Description

This role is a maternity cover until October 2025. We are looking for an experienced and dynamic professional to work two days a week (preferably Thursday and Friday) to lead on the development, delivery and evaluation of our learning offer across Leicestershire County Council's heritage sites. This includes the informal learning offer for all age groups across our five sites: Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre, The 1620s House and Garden at Donington le Heath, Charnwood Museum, Harborough Museum and Melton Carnegie Museum. The role will job share with the part time Heritage Learning Officer, who leads on the formal learning programme, working closely together to provide dynamic and engaging learning opportunities for all. The role includes the joint management of the Battlefield Guides at Bosworth Battlefield, which is shared with the other Learning Officer The role will need someone with an understanding of the National Curriculum, experience of working with formal and informal learning groups, developing formal and informal learning sessions, experience of budget and staff management. Delivery of the programme will involve the post holder, front of house teams, creative and educator practitioners to deliver the learning programme across the service. The role will work alongside colleagues in the museum's events and front of house teams and a wide range of colleagues across the Service., We are keen to support employees to balance their working life with other commitments. Are you looking for experience of working with families and schools in a museum setting? Do you enjoy sharing stories in interesting and accessible ways?,

  • NVQ Level 4, or equivalent level of experience detailed in the Person Spec
  • Experience of managing a team and budgets
  • Experience of developing and delivering national curriculum-based workshops and family-based learning activities or resources
  • Current knowledge of the National Curriculum and current issues affecting schools and colleges
  • Proficient IT skills, including the ability to effectively use Microsoft packages
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, including the ability to resolve conflict and report writing
  • Excellent time management and the ability and willingness to travel to all five museums sites around the county as necessary.
