Full Job Description

The post holder will:

  • Take a proactive lead role in the development and expansion of the Talking Therapies Counselling service in collaboration with the Clinical Lead and Team Manager, including supporting the management team with service promotion and achievement of Key Performance Indicators.
  • Hold a post graduate IAPT qualification in a Counselling modality and be accreditation in that modality and/or BACP accredited and have completed an IAPT Supervisors course.
  • Have substantial experience of working as a Counsellor in a Talking Therapy service, managing complex client presentations and providing formal clinical supervision to Talking Therapy qualified staff and trainees.
  • Provide high quality Counselling to adults presenting with moderate to severe mental health problems, including those with a degree of complexity in accordance with NICE guidelines. Work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and may be called upon to work in various settings.

    Do you have excellent clinical skills, with supervisor and leadership experience in a Talking Therapy service? West NHS Talking Therapies is looking for an innovative and experienced Senior High Intensity therapist / Counsellor to lead our Counselling team. You will be joining our existing management team to help manage our growing teams. This is an exciting opportunity for appropriately qualified and experienced Counselling therapists to take on additional supervisory, managerial and service development related responsibilities and extend their knowledge and skills. The role requires flexibility to lead across a range of roles and responsibilities within the management team. Applicants should be motivated, innovative, enthusiastic and committed to developing staff and to staff wellbeing. Applicants must have substantial experience of working as Counsellor in a Talking Therapy service, managing complex client presentations and providing formal clinical supervision to Talking Therapy qualified staff and trainees. Experience of working with patients with long-term health conditions is highly desirable.,
  • IAPT Accredited Post Graduate Diploma in CBT and Provisional or full Accreditation with the BABCP.

  • Professional qualification in health or social care, e.g. RMN or Social Worker.
  • IAPT training in LTC's
  • EMDR Training, Specialist knowledge of the theory and practice of cognitive behaviour therapy.
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
  • Knowledge of the IAPT model and a willingness to develop the service clinically.
  • An understanding of the key performance indicators in IAPT services and how they relate to clinical practice
  • Evidence of ability to develop and evaluate areas of care and treatment
  • Experience of Supervision and line management of qualified and Trainee practitioners
  • Formal training in CBT clinical supervision
  • Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health
  • Specialist IAPT knowledge, training and experience of delivering interventions to particular client groups i.e. LTC, Older adults in line with the IAPT manual.
  • Knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex multivariate data analysis within clinical fields
  • Experience in the training of others using a variety of complex multimedia materials suitable for presentations within Public professional and academic settings Abi, Experience of working with clients at step 3 who present with the full range of anxiety and depression problems
  • Experience in delivering specialist Cognitive Behaviour Therapy assessment and interventions of clients in Adult Primary Care Mental Health settings
  • Experience of working with a wide range of client groups, across the whole life course presenting with problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems and physical and verbal abuse
  • Experience of line management and supervising others
  • Experience of Promoting wellbeing and social inclusion
  • Experience of delivering group work
  • Desirable criteria
  • Experience of the application of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy in different cultural contexts.
  • Experience of service user and carer involvement in services and service development.
