Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Higher Assistant Psychologist (permanent) to join the Intensive Positive Behaviour Support (IPBS) team based at Acklam Road hospital. The Intensive Positive Behaviour Support (IPBS) Team is a highly specialist multi-disciplinary team which provides intensive support for children and young people who have a learning disability, and autistic children and young people up to the age of 18 years, who are at risk of a hospital admission due to complex distress behaviours. The successful applicant will work within the clinical team which support autistic children and young people.

The multidisciplinary team consists of Speech and Language Therapy (SALT), Occupational Therapy (OT), Nursing, and Psychology. We provide enhanced assessment and implement the IPBS clinical pathway in addition to core assessments completed within the Getting More Help community teams in the Durham Tees Valley. We also implement a clinical pathway for inpatient services within the NENC region, supporting young people when they are discharged from hospital.

This is an exciting time for the team as it is in the process of expansion, following a successful period of piloting a clinical pathway for Autistic Young People. This is now going to become an integrated part of the IPBS offer within this CYPS Specialist Service and will involve the development of innovative practice and continuous service development., We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with previous assistant psychologist experience to support the team in the delivery of the IPBS service; this will include supporting the development of the service and contributing to the provision of excellent, accessible care.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated to support young people and have an ability to be flexible and adaptive when responding to demands of the service and our young people.

Main duties will include:

  • Research, audit and evaluation of the service

  • Service development

  • Data collection and analysis

  • Indirect patient care

Assisting in specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment with young people and their families

Working within the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT).

Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
