Full Job Description

  • implement planning for specific areas of the curriculum and evaluate impact

  • plan, deliver and assess when working with groups or leading specified sessions

  • design and prepare resources to support adaptive teaching and provide challenge

  • implement strategies as recommended by professionals, support the writing of IEP targets and lead interventions

  • monitor and assess specific children or groups of pupils

  • work in consultation with class teachers to create an environment which is language rich, in terms of spoken language and the use of complementary communication systems such as visual symbols.

    We are looking to appoint a Level 4 Teaching Assistant, who is hardworking, ambitious and inspiring and will work in partnership with classroom teachers to develop and educate our children to achieve their targets. We are seeking a member of staff who must have experience of covering classes. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, positive and enthusiastic, love working with children and a team player.


  • What we are looking for:

    The successful candidate should

  • Have good organisation skills and can manage learning sessions

  • Be able to develop positive relationships with young children

  • Be able to stay calm and objective when presented with unusual or challenging behaviour

  • Have experience of supporting children with moderate to severe SEND needs, including autism, ADHD, behavioural, social and emotional learning difficulties, speech and language needs

  • Be enthusiastic and committed to working as part of a team

  • Be a confident and clear communicator with staff and parents

  • Have GCSEs or equivalent level, including at least a Grade 4 (previously Grade C) in English and Maths, NVQ3 or equivalent

  • Externally assessed HLTA status

  • A high standard of spoken English

  • high expectations and a strong commitment to raising standards

  • work with initiative and be self-reliant when appropriate

  • a high standard of general education with good numeracy and literacy skills


  • Desired criteria:

  • Have experience of teaching small groups and supporting children with SEND on both a 1:1 basis or within the general classroom environment

  • Experience of planning for small groups and specific areas of the curriculum

  • Experience of covering classes

  • Knowledge of the Early Years, KS1, KS2 curriculum

  • Confidence in using ICT and a range of strategies to support children

  • Knowledge of teaching phonics and early mathematics and a range of interventions
