Main Areas of Responsibility

Your role will include:

  • Supporting the class teacher as a learning support assistant

  • Leading and maintaining positive, safe and enjoyable break times for pupils coordinating first aid and medical support in collaboration with the school admin team.

  • Championing mental wellbeing for children and adults

  • Covering for teachers

  • Coordinating the organisation of first aid and medical equipment in the school

  • Supporting pupils' social and emotional development and promote independence in a safe, secure, challenging environment

  • Encouraging pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others

  • Observing, recording and supporting the social and emotional development of pupils

  • Providing accessible visual materials around the school to promote wellbeing

  • Identifying the need for, sourcing and ordering equipment the playground

  • Listening, supporting and discussing issues sensitively with parents and carers under the supervision of the teacher/SENCO/Vice Principal and occasionally participating in meetings with parents

    First aid qualification (or willingness to study for)

  • A nationally recognised mental health Level 3 qualification (or willingness to study for)

  • Understanding of the principles of whole school listening systems such as Circle Time

  • Qualifications to degree level or equivalent

  • Basic knowledge of SEND and learning barriers

  • Some knowledge of strategies in working with young people with challenging behaviours

  • Knowledge of some of the social issues facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds

  • Awareness of Health and Safety issues in the workplace.

  • Experience of working directly with young people in an education or training environment, supporting the learning of students
