Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 7 Highly Specialist Dietitian position within the dermatology team at the world-famous Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, NHS Foundation Trust. Our Dermatology service covers acute inpatient dermatology, outpatient MDT allergy service, outpatient dermatology service, including eczema and bullous disorders. The department also provides a national and international service for the management of rare andcomplex paediatric dermatology and epidermolysis bullosa cases. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work as part of a large and supportive MDT team and alongside a highly specialised dietitian prescriber providing a high-quality clinical service to dermatology, rare dermatology and epidermolysis bullosa, across the paediatric age range 0-19 years.We are looking for a dynamic individual with previous experience working with children with allergy, and substantial general paediatric experience who wants to,

  • Responsible for the provision of a comprehensive and high-quality dietetic service for both inpatients and outpatients working to agreed standards, policies and procedures

  • Using specialised knowledge to manage a caseload of patients with different underlying conditions.

  • Assessment of the patient's needs for all children in the caseload, considering their diet history, growth and biochemical parameters and any relevant drug treatments. Making clinical decisions regarding the necessary nutritional support and dietary interventions

  • Development and updating of diet sheets and other educational resources for patients and healthcare professionals both within and outside the Trust

  • Close liaison with the diet service technicians and tasks to support the operation andfunctions of the Special Feeds Unit and Diet Kitchen

  • Teaching and supporting dietitians, diet service technicians, dietetic assistants, nursing, medical and other healthcare professionals on all aspects of nutrition and dietary management through informal tutorials and formal study days, conferences.

  • Training the multidisciplinary team in anthropometry.

  • Freedom to act interpreting the Health Professions Council code of conduct and working to all agreed standards, policies and procedures within the department and the Trust

  • Maintenance and improvement of knowledge about current best practice and developments in paediatric nutrition and dietetics, employing evidence-based practice wherever possible

    further develop their skills and becomea specialist dietitian within the highly rewarding area of dermatology. Experience of caring forinfants and children with rare dermatology or epidermolysis bullosa is not essential, training and support will be provided.
