Full Job Description

+ Responsible for the provision of a comprehensive and quality dietetic service for both in-patients and out-patients working to agreed standards, policies and procedures
+ Using highly specialised knowledge to provide high quality nutritional care for patients managed under the cardiology team
+ On-going assessment of the patient's needs and making clinical decisions regarding the necessary nutritional support and dietary interventions for all children in the caseload considering their diagnosis, diet history, growth and biochemical parameters and any relevant drug treatments
+ Close liaison with the diet service technicians and tasks to support the operation and functions of the Special Feeds Unit and Diet Kitchen (when required)
+ Supervising the work of the dietetic assistants and support workers
+ Teaching and supporting Band 6 dietitians, diet service technicians, dietetic assistants, dietetic support workers, nursing, medical and other healthcare professionals on all aspects of cardiology nutrition through informal tutorials and formal study days and mandatory induction events
+ Freedom to act interpreting the Health Professions Council code of conduct and working to all agreed standards, policies and procedures within the department and the Trust
+ Maintenance and improvement of knowledge about current best practice and developments in cardiology dietetics as well as general paediatric dietetics, employing evidence-based practice wherever possible

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Dietitian to join the ITU & Respiratory Dietetics Team at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).
The post holder will join our existing cardiac establishment of 1 x band 7 and 1 x band 6. Together the team will be responsible for delivering a dietetics service to patients managed under Cardiology. Our CICU is a specialised unit for children under 16 years of age who need intensive care for conditions involving the heart, lungs or airways. The unit is also
responsible for the care of children on extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and ventricular assist devices (VAD). Following surgery, patients are stepped down to the cardiac ward before discharge. The cardiology team is multidisciplinary and includes intensive care doctors and nurses, cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, physiotherapists and
pharmacists.

The recruitment process for all admin and clerical roles at Bands 2-4 will be a two stage recruitment process whereby shortlisted candidates will undertake an online literacy, numeracy, ICT and typing test. Only those candidates who pass the competency test will proceed to a formal interview.
