Full Job Description

Are you interested in physiology and all things breathing-related? We are looking for a motivated individual to come and join the respiratory physiology team here at UCLH. If you are interested in looking after patients; have good communication and organisational skills, along with the enthusiasm and drive to improve all aspects of patient care, then you could be just the person we are looking for. The successful candidate will join the respiratory physiology team performing complex respiratory and sleep diagnostics across both the UCH and NHNN sites. The main focus of this role is it to help support training and implementation of quality assured diagnostic spirometry within both the NMCCC unit and outpatient environment. Independent analysis and reporting of both outpatient and inpatient respiratory sleep studies.,

  • Have a working knowledge of routine and more specialised lung function tests, and be independently responsible for much of the work in the lung function laboratory. This should include performing spirometry, flow-volume loop, transfer factor, body plethysmography, mouth pressures, 6 min. walk tests, bronchodilator response, challenge testing, capillary blood sampling for hypoxic challenge tests and cardiopulmonary exercise testing.
  • Have a working knowledge of routine and more specialised sleep studies including the ability to score and report multichannel sleep studies and transcutaneous CO2 studies.
  • Initiation of patients onto CPAP and NIV therapy, and optimisation of therapy thereafter and support the set up and running of a remote monitoring service for our domiciliary ventilated patients
  • Oversight of the competency assessment as a work based assessor for both the ARTP evidence based logbook and preparation for the practical examination
  • Delivery of ongoing competency assessment and training of new staff members that work within the NMCCC and Queen Square site performing spirometry
  • To ensure all equipment is calibrated at the appropriate time and maintain good hygiene in both the lung function and sleep labs and troubleshoot technical problems relating to lung function and sleep equipment.
  • To provide technical support for any research undertaken within the lung function and sleep departments.
