Full Job Description

  • Taking a lead in advanced Occupational Therapy clinical practice in neuro-oncology and providing a consultative resource for other Occupational Therapists across the UK.
  • Liaising with multi-professional team within the hospital and community, to achieve optimum rehabilitation outcomes and planned, coordinated packages of support across health and social care.
  • Teaching patients specialised strategies aimed towards the management of symptoms related to cancer e.g. relaxation and anxiety management, breathlessness and fatigue management.
  • Maintaining awareness of relevant and current research evidence, legislative and government guidance and applying these to advanced clinical practice.
  • Delivering in-service teaching sessions and tutorials to promote the clinical development of band 5/6 Occupational Therapists.
  • Preparing and developing learning materials for use within the department.

    The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is a leading Cancer Hospital in London, and the Occupational Therapy Department is recruiting to a full time, Band 7 OT in our Sutton and Chelsea hospitals (which attracts inner London weighting) to join the team as a Highly Specialist Neuro-Oncology Occupational Therapist. You will be joining a supportive and friendly team of qualified Occupational Therapists working in an acute setting to support needs of patients of all age groups undergoing cancer treatment. Cancer care is a rapidly developing area of expertise within Occupational Therapy. TheBand 7 Occupational Therapist will jointly lead the Neuro-Oncology service with Physiotherapy colleagues across both sites of the Trust. They will treat inpatients and manage and prioritise outpatient referrals, co-ordinate outpatient appointments, assess patients, provide and develop the neuro-oncology service to this patient group including the use of supported self-management strategies and onward referral.
