Full Job Description

This is a direct replacement for an established post which in neuro-trauma. The B7 Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist role is integral to the delivery of specialist neuro -trauma/ neurorehabilitation services across several locations including St George's main hospital site. It is integral in supporting the assessment and treatment of traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury patients across the trust. Support management in many different areas of the trust and facilitating the flow of these patients onto relevant rehabilitation centres., Coordination of patients across major trauma pathway (critical care, neurosurgery, trauma & orthopaedics, senior health, medical, A&E) -- this includes complex case management and liaising with external agencies and facilitating onward referrals and flow through the pathway, reducing LOS.

Responsible for complex clinical caseload of patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and spinal cord injury across the whole Trust

This level of expertise is required with specialist cognitive and perceptual assessment (in particular mobile patients with executive function difficulties and behaviours that challenge); tone and spasticity assessment and management (including casting and splinting), specialist seating and complex discharge & rehabilitation planning. In addition the expertise and input is indicated in reducing secondary complications associated with critical care/ acute admissions (e.g. early mobilisation - reducing risk of chest infections; early tone assessment and management - reducing risk of contractures and long term need for spasticity management).

The role is essential in order to facilitate flow and patient care through clinical pathways and the post supports the delivery of 7 day therapy services.
