Full Job Description

We are seeking a practitioner psychologist within Manchester Severe Asthma/Airways Service. This would suit applicants with experience of working within physical health, but a preceptorship would be considered for the right applicant.

You would be supported by a senior psychologist within the service with access to peer supervision. We are also part of the national severe asthma psychology network. This is a dynamic, innovative and welcoming team involved in developing high quality care with links to other national services.

You will support patients with severe asthma and/or upper airway conditions (e.g. ILO) and other respiratory conditions. Patients can experience a high burden of symptoms/side effects/lifestyle challenges which can lead to psychological distress. The role includes direct clinical work (assessment and therapy), as well as consultation and MDT work. Opportunities exist to work with other disciplines to further improve patient care. Research is encouraged/supported.

Provide psychological assessment, formulation, therapeutic interventions (individual/group) to patients

The successful applicant will be required to work flexibly and creatively to promote psychological wellbeing

Provide psychological consultation into MDT discussions to provide understanding and support the development of effective holistic treatment plans

Communicate complex information in ways that are accessible to multiple audiences including: patients, GP's, MDT members

Work in collaboration with senior psychologist to further develop and improve psychology service

Work with other members of the MDT both directly through joint sessions and indirectly through consultation & supervision

Support the MDT understanding of psychological factors relevant to patient presentations, approaches to care and their needs

Contribute to in-house teaching and education sessions within the severe asthma and airways service

Undertake research, audit and service evaluation projects
