Full Job Description

You would be part of a specialist Speech and Language Therapy team responsible for the provision of a Speech and Language Therapy service to the Nottingham Children's Hospital. This involves the assessment, differential diagnosis and management of communication and feeding problems of paediatric inpatients, across the age range within Paediatrics, with a wide range of complex medical conditions.
You will be based at Queen's Medical Centre with potential opportunities to work cross site in Neonatal service. The role also spans paediatric Critical Care through to ward level, providing early intervention and multi-disciplinary intensive assessment and management. The SLT role is working with babies and children during their admission, addressing their swallowing/eating and drinking difficulties and also their communication difficulties, with supervision as required. The role includes supporting the children and MDT colleagues for a well-planned and supported early discharge home and back into education. The role also includes inter-disciplinary teaching and training of patients, families, and other professionals. There may be some opportunities for some outpatient or MDT clinic work.

We are looking for a motivated and dynamic Speech and Language Therapist who is keen to further develop their expertise in dysphagia and communication skills in our Paediatric/Neonatal SLT team, which works across a range of specialities including Neurosciences, ENT, Critical Care, and Neonatology. You will be joining a team lead by two Clinical Specialist SLTs for Paediatrics and Neonates and working alongside Band 7s and Band 6s in the team.

If you are aged 16 or 17 and applying for a role that is more than 20 hours a week, please be aware that you will be asked to commence an Apprenticeship within the Trust alongside your role, as long as there is a suitable apprenticeship standard available. This is in line with the current guidance in England that whilst young people under the age of 18 can leave school (on the last Friday in June) they must then do one of the following:
+ Stay in full-time education, for example at a college
+ Start an Apprenticeship
+ Spend 20 hours of more a week working or volunteering, while in part-time education or training

This post is being offered as Band 6 to Band 7 progression post, subject to Annexe 21 guidance on starting salary and pay progression. Starting as a Band 6 the progression period would be up to 12 months, leading to transition to Band 7 (subject to attaining the required levels of competency). Training, support, and supervision would be provided from the SLT service for adults and paediatrics across NUH, with opportunities for mutual mentoring and support, and from the wider MDT.
This is a permanent full-time post however part-time working would be considered., Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

+ Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£42.90 for enhanced and £22.90 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month's pay). Should I decide to withdraw from my job offer, I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of the DBS check undertaken by cheque or other agreed method.
